Thought I'd just start one big thread, since there are 10 new comics each month, with one being voted the winner.

So, I'll start with December's list, but, more specifically...

Villain by Gregory Smallwood (You know he had a tough childhood. Heh.)

Zuda Comics 1556_224x168
Synopsis: Terry Allen has the ability to manipulate energy. He can absorb it, channel it, or redirect it. It’s a powerful gift but, instead of using it for good, he uses it for profit and destruction. Under the guise of Shockwave, Allen commits high profile crimes and amasses a small fortune. But money and power are not enough to save him from earth’s premier superhero team, The Overmen. Caught during a diamond heist gone awry, Shockwave is given a life sentence on the prison planet, Atticus. Located in a parallel universe, Atticus houses some of the world’s most dangerous super-villains. With no guards and a super-powered prisoner population in the hundreds, it is a dangerous world where only the strongest and most ruthless survive. On Atticus, Shockwave is forced to confront his own nihilism and choose sides in a fight that determines the survival of earth.

It's in the #2 spot, and deserves number one, IMO. There are 9 others this month. I'll give mention to Unseen Tribe and One Hit Knock Out.

It's a shame I just found out about it. Villain rocks. I have actually read the other one but didn't care for it. It's a shame since Villain should have won.

^ I thought so too. It was in second for the longest time. I think One Hit Knock Out had twice as many votes/views as Villain, so it was worlds ahead of the pack.

January! Starting off the new year with some intriguing ones.

War of the Woods (I think I'm going to vote for this one because it is just really different. Petz deserves a win for his past, quality work and patience.)
Zuda Comics 1661_224x168
http://www.zudacomics.com/node/1661
"War Of The Woods is a classic alien invasion story told from an entirely unique point of view, that of the animals of the New Jersey Pine Barrens. Father and son otters Nathaniel and Phinneas Waterbrooks will embark on an adventure with close friend, turtle Issac Brownshell. They, along with the rest of the animal kingdom, will not only survive but fight back against the greatest threat the planet has ever known.
Phin is a young Otter who loves reading the forgotten comic books of hikers and campers. Nathaniel, his father, is a fisherman descended from a long line of fisherman. He has cared for Phin alone since the death of his wife. Issac is his good friend and a grandfatherly figure to Phin. Through the eyes of these three we begin to witness the invasion. When UFOs begin descending upon the Earth the lives of all animals will never be the same. War Of The Woods is sprawling saga that will introduce us to the animals and their societies during this crisis. Phin will find himself at the center of a great war, a war that will take our characters all over the world, and a war for the future of the planet.
War of the Woods is an epic adventure along the lines of The Road, Lord of The Rings, and Aliens. It follows the quiet moments of survival and the explosive moments of a planet on the brink. At its core it is about a father and son and the bonds we all share during extraordinary times."

Candy From Strangers (This one is a bit explicit with its violence. Just a heads-up. Probably shouldn't've used that term.)
Zuda Comics 1643_224x168
http://www.zudacomics.com/node/1643#comment-46614
Synopsis:
"Two very troubled young runaways are united in their attempt to evade capture from the law. Separately they couldn't survive--one has only the skills and the other only the means. Together they can make it and they begin their decade long murderous road trip across America. They learn about love and life in their own perverse way as together they become adults. Pursued by a Chechen gang called the Movladi and by a lone, desperate ex-cop tragically affected by their crimes they travel aimlessly from state to state, from thrill to thrill in the ultimate tale of nihilism."

Honorable mention: War of the Fallen ( http://www.zudacomics.com/node/1647 ). I liked it, but not as much as the others.

February 2010.

2 really good ones this month.

Monsterplex (If you like horror movies, this one is a humorous depiction.)
Zuda Comics 1759_224x168
Synopsis:
"At Corman Cinemas you don’t just watch a movie about monsters, you run away from them. Now under new management."

Gelgun (If you like sword and sorcery with your manga, this one is fantastic.)
Zuda Comics 1754_224x168
Synopsis:
"A mysterious warrior named Gelgun becomes entangled in a web of supernatural conflict as he attempts to free his Queen from Mortram the summoner."

Remember, there are 8 others this month, just felt these two were the superior. Give'em a look-see, you won't be disappointed.

^ Whoa! Didn't know this. I wonder if they cheated with the voting by creating fake emails or...something? I hated when competitors would just start a chain-mail and get votes from people that don't even go to Zuda, let alone have even read their damned comic to vote for it. Me thinks that that may be part of the problem.

Hmm... didn't see anything about them rigging the votes. It was all because the artist commented on a drawing of someone, freaking out and acting unprofessionally.

^ Yeah. Something about a phallic appearance to eye-beams or something. I believe I remember thinking that for a split second when reading it. Which it has been taken off. I think that's the reason War of the Woods won. Thunderchickens was fun looking, but I'm glad that one won.

March's Competition.

Not too many great, IMHO, this month, but here are two of the ten that stand out pretty well.

Bernie's Bot by The Dood & ZDegaine.
Zuda Comics 1797_224x168
Synopsis:
"It’s the near future, and robots have become part of everyday life. But society isn’t the utopia (or dystopia) that many have predicted. The haves and have-nots still exist, and the Meckron family fits squarely in the latter category. A blue-collar factory worker, Roger Meckron works hard to support himself and his 10-year-old daughter, Bernadette (Bernie), in an apartment on the wrong side of the tracks. Elizabeth Meckron, Roger’s wife and Bernie’s mom, left the family more than year ago under mysterious circumstances.
Bernie is a bright, inquisitive kid but socially awkward. She much prefers the company of robots over humans. Because she can’t afford to buy one, Bernie decides to build a robotic companion out of spare parts that her father sneaks out of his factory. Using a core “engine” left by her now-absent mother, Bernie soon completes her creation -- a gangly robot named Thursday.
But questions remain: Can Thursday be trusted? What happened to Bernie's mom? And who (or what) is Tawros?"

Night at the Western by Lance Bailey, Cesar Sebastian, and FonoGrafiks.
Zuda Comics 1756_224x168
Synopsis:
"California, winter, the late 1980s: lost on their way to bigger things in Los Angeles, a small-time conman and a thief reluctantly stop over for the night at the run-down Western Motel, in the agricultural hinterland. What should be just a short rest on their way to the big city becomes a wrong turn toward death itself. It is a detour one of them will not survive, and the other will never forget. Nick, the greedy conman, is drawn into what seems like an easy $10,000 scheme by Laura, the pretty night manager of the motel. He figures one quick score on the way to Los Angeles won’t hurt. Our nameless narrator, tired of a thieving life and hoping this will be his last job, follows reluctantly along. As the tension comes to a boiling point, the pair find themselves dragged into a plot that neither of them understands, unwitting players in a high-stakes game with opponents far more desperate than they. Nothing at the Western Motel is as it seems. Before sunrise, more than one person will be dead, and the lives of everyone will be turned upside down by a collision of lust, greed, jealousy and desperation. The plot twists, and twists again. With a full cast of honorable thieves, desperate criminals, disturbed relatives, and a femme fatale whose depths nobody understands, Night at the Western is a crime tale that pays homage to noir classics such as The Postman Always Rings Twice, Detour and Blood Simple."
