Batman #692

Wasn't this fun? That's maybe why in the past few years Tony Daniel's been a Bat-fav for me? Morrison's is the most challenging, Diggle's was very Dark Knight-ish, Dini's was very classical, and Tony Daniel's is very Michael Bay. That doesn't sound good, but it's a great read. Don't get me wrong--it's not Batman acting like a maniacal-meathead like Miller's All-Star Bats, it's definitely Nightwing under the Cowl, just with more explosions, splash pages, sinister bosses, and a ...

The Brave and the Bold #27

Finally bought the 3 JMS Bold & The Brave issues after nothing but absolute wonderful reviews. This ish was a good debut for JMS (does anyone even count those Red Circle books no one bought?), allowing him to showcase his prowess on a little 1-and-done. The premise is silly, certainly golden age, but as we all know, that's the point of these odd team-ups. What you get here--along with classical art--are stories you won't receive in the continuity-driven mainstream ...

Not jammed packed with excitement, but it's a good continuation of previous installments throughout the Bat-books. Like I said elsewhere, I really like the idea of this character, so I hope they'll really put some effort and support behind him. There's an interesting tension between him and Grayson, and that last page definitely raised an eyebrow.

Now this is probably a little premature as DC's First Wave doesn't officially start until March but the Batman/Doc Savage special that just came out was a preliminary taste of First Wave.

Who's interested in this? For me the special wasn't bad as a bit of a taste of this new world and with Brian Azzarello at the helm it's certainly got me intrigued. I thought Azzarello's comments on the characters and Rags Morales's designs at the back of the special looked great (if maybe a little cliched). ...

With issue #32 the cracks really are starting to appear in this team and you can see the inevitable break up starting to take form.

I'm actually still thinking "Billy" is actually responsible for his actions. I'm a bit dubious about these people jumping to the conclusion that Billy was under mind control because he was walking funny and saying "must...obey". Umm....what if he was acting??? King Chimera just seems a little too obvious.

So who's responsible for ...

Call me crazy, but I'm a fan of Huntress. Yes, possibly the only one. But, I dig her. I liked how she was used here against Man-bat. Drives home the differences that have existed between her and Batman for years now. The only thing that irked me is how she kept saying that no one had faith in her, or trusted her, etc.. even Oracle. What now? Oracle has been one of her biggest supporters (not to mention TEAMMATE) for years. When did this fallout happen where Babs no longer trusts her? Sure, I ...

Also the Ravager feature is doing pretty good job with her, i like her much more then when McKeever and the other writers wrote her.

There have been a gazillion Superman origin stories with Birthright being my favorite. What Johns does right on this series however is do things differently.
