Fall of the Hulks 21ew5so

I like everyone on the creative team aside of Loeb, so there's still not a chance I'm going to read a Hulk story anytime soon. The teaser image is beautiful.

Oh I think that's based on some ads back in the 80s. Was it Fall of the Mutants? I'm sure it looks familiar.

I may be getting old but the memory's still not too bad. This was by Alan Davis circa 1988:

Wow. Forgot about that, but now I know why it looked familiar. Still, a great image.

The image is very cool and I agree with Tomer. I like everyone except for Loeb on this. I especially happy to see Greg Pak on it.

Well, I love Pak's Incredible Hulk and have no real issues with Loeb's Hulk, unless She-Rulk turns out to be Domino (grrrrrrrrr), so I'm looking forward to this event, although with 90 other events going on at the same time I'm sure I'll get frustrated if it starts to lag like WWH did.

Im pretty psyched for anything hulk-centric. Hopefully Pak and Parker are around just to slap Loeb upside the head.

But seeing the fall of the hulks, makes me wonder if this is going to be linked to the Gamma rads in any way, it is the only thing they all have in common.

Fall of the Hulks Gamma #1

This has actually been pretty solid. Loeb did surprising well with the funeral and the various eulogies. Its a huge death in the MU, but still seems like there's something more to it. It was also nice to see Steve, Bucky, and Carol in attendance...not sure how they will all fit in this. Plus, the Ingelligencia has been pretty interesting so looking forward to seeing their full plans.

And I didn't think I'd ever say it but, Rulk has actually become a fairly compelling character during this storyline. He's finally displaying some kind of purpose, and even having meaningful dialogue. His team up with Banner has been unexpected and pretty well handled so far. I think the fact that Greg Pak is heavily involved in the FotH storyline has really helped it so far and tamped down some of Loeb's more atrocious writing tendencies we've seen over the last couple years.

I'll wait till this is over and seeing it's outcome before I pick this up. What I have read ths far of this does not appeal to me, and the art simply doesn't do it for me. On a side note, and I know this is nitpicking but at the end, with the ratings, what is up with them? Most of them seem off. She-Hulk has always been ranked as having better fighting skills than that and Samson with near genius level to genius level intellect. He's even shown as such in the comics. It seems pretty screwy and sloppy of Marvel, since everyone seemed to have essentially the same rating aside from Banner. shake my head

I liked the Gamma issue, it was good stuff! The art was passable, but I'm not a big Romita fan. It sets up some interesting things, though, Banner and Red Hulk working together? I'm intrigued!

Marvel's always kind of wacky about those power rankings! I think a 7 in strength means they can lift around 100 tons or more. She-Hulk should be in that range.

My LCS put this in my stack along with the side stuff and I refused them. I thought I remembered to 86 Hulk stuff off my list, but maybe I didn't say it clear or didn't at all. don't know

This story is pretty damn good so far. Incredible Hulk #606 and Hulk #19 were really solid issues. The story is intriguing with the Intelligencia making their move against the world's smartest men. And I thought Red Hulk was actually doing the right thing for once, but now it seems like he's playing both sides. Pak and even Loeb are doing a good job here, not to mention the art has been stellar by Ed McGuinness and Paul Pelletier.

Best issue of the newly penned Pak reboot. Awesome "battle" between Hulk and Doom. Actually, a lot of good sequences and even better art from Pellietier. Just glad to see a consistently excellent artist on the book, handling the entire issue. This was last week and I've read 20-something books since then (if not more) so...just agree with me, okay?

4/5 RULKS - If you're scared to jump on Fall of the Hulks--don't be. Just buy the Incredible Hulk books...unless more of you are telling me Loeb's Hulk is actually good?

With Siege out taking most of the press, Fall of the Hulks has really been a quiet event. Maybe that's because fans know War of the Hulks or World War HulkS or whatever title they come up with will be following shortly thereafter. That, and lots of doubters have steered clear of Loeb's work. I've heard his take on Red Hulk and the rest of the mini-event has been better than usual; still, I'm not seeing the types of high marks that Pak has enjoyed, even now, throughout his run of Hulk. As for this issue, it's the type you really enjoy reading, but in hindsight you know does nothing extraordinary.

And that's okay. For a "set-up" issue there's a fairly cool battle between Red She-Hulk, Skaar and the Avengers. For some reason Red She-Hulk doesn't piss me off as much as her male counterpart does. Maybe that's because of how Pak is writing her, or that she's a genetically-mutated alpha she-freak that's doing exactly what she's supposed to: smash. Sometimes playing by the books works. Despite the deus ex machina, I also liked her backup in this issue more than the usual Savage She-Hulk extra.

Again, Paul Pelletier's highly-detailed artwork--despite all the flowing bits of testosterone--proves to be the winner here. It's over the top enough to fit the Hulk saga, but not as cartoony or blimpy as say that of McGuinness. I'm not actually laughing at the action this time. Other than Loeb's shifty writing, it's one of the reasons I continue to avoid the other sections of the Fall of the Hulks. And to be honest, I don't feel like I'm missing much.

3/5 Bags&Boards - The most enjoyable 3 star book you'll find all week. Just don't expect any revelations just yet in this event...if ever?
