Nova #30

A medicore issue still worth picking up if Nova's on your punchlist.

I can't, however, help being a little disappointed with the Bounty hunter not living up to his splash pages and cover art. For Nova, having Realm of Kings around the corner is definitely a good thing, as it's no longer as strong on it's own; it appears these crossovers/events that Abnett & Lanning have laid out have excelled the importance of this title.

With Darkhawk & Ryder fighting next issue, what could be better?

Haha. Yeah, I've never been so excited for a book that was just mediocre the week before.

This book continues to impress. I'm really enjoying the building back up of the Nova Corps with Richard basically leading the way as Nova-Prime. Its got a whole "Green Lantern-y" feel to it right now with the recruits having to wear different unis and being trained by drill sergeant Philo. And I love what DnA have done with Darkhawk and the Fraternity of Raptors. They've really revamped a tired concept and made it awesome. I hope they stick around, possibly as a recurring foe for Rich and the Nova Centurions.

Thank you for another nice review--especially since I basically took the week off from "boarding." Twisted Evil

This issue made me forget what was a pitiful issue #30 with tons of great action, improved art and a hell of a ride heading into Realm of Kings. Glad all those pricey minis during WOK are finally starting to pay off. This Fraternity really has screwed up Chris' motivations in this whole saga and I'm glad Nova saw past that--to an extent--and decided to keep him on board. As I stated in an earlier review, this book needed some freshness and the Darkhawk figures definitely add more to an almost stagnant cast.

Man, I don't know what it is but I've completely lost interest in this book. I really liked the premise when it started and Nova was on his own but now I'm finding myself majorly disinterested in these backup characters that are taking up a large chunk of the book. As for comparisons to the Green Lantern Corps - well it's pretty similar and I would suggest it's pretty bad timing to try it because everything is going to pale in comparison to GL at the moment.

I'm bored with this so I think it's dropped.

I'm somewhat of an Ancient Egypt buff, so I really enjoyed this issue. The Sphinx has solid potential as a cosmic villain IMO. DnA have revamped so many other tired cosmic characters so I'm confident they'll do it again with him. I also really like the friendship between Nova and Darkhawk. Solid issue overall.

As a graphic narrative that's supposed to plot well, tie-into the current status perfectly, and get us all worked up about the happenings that is the cosmic U, this one falters. As a comic that entertains the heck out of us, it's a fantastic voyage.

Both Nova and newly-found compatriot Darkhawk get thrown into The Fault and end up in Egypt(?!) where they discover some retro Marvel heroes dealing with their own shenanigans. It's always a trip when heroes from the present and past meet, and this episode packs a little bit of humor when one superhero in particular refuses the knowledge of all current activities. When he's drawn into the fray, all hell breaks loose.

This is when the script weakens: splash pages pop up in bunches and random guests suddenly arrive. Is it fun? It sure is. Does it help us connect the dots to Realm of Kings? No way. This issue adds to what's seemingly the most convuluted mess of a cosmic event in some time. Good thing I have faith in Abnett and Lanning, and that all this desertland craziness is happening for a reason.

Finally, the artwork is a major step-up. For a while Nova's gotten the shaft in the art department, so it's good to see the book finally look this good. Di Vito's panels are large, bold, and colorful; giving the book a larger-than-life feel it's so very needed. Every page sends off the feel that something drastic is happening; let's just hope this now revved-up Nova series has the answers to go with all its questions.

3.5/5 Sphinx Staffs - Wildy intriguing and nice-looking book that comes off as a bit of a mess

The recent issue had the usual stuff but seemed to be lacking. The art was it's usual form but also seemed lacking. Honestly, I'm not sure what it is, but the book was missing something. It felt like it went nowhere despite all that went on. In the end, there seems like there is no sense of urgency or a reason for me, as the reader, to care about what is going on. And thus, it's hard for me to care about what is going down.

Nova #33, I liked this issue but #34 looks to be better judging by the last panel. Sphinx, Basilisk, Bloodstone shit it's been decades since I've read a story with these guys in it. Looking forward to next issue.

This issue didn't do much for me other than appreciate the New Warriors, and I feel like if things don't get better soon--as in these Realm of Kings issues--this book's going to be dropped. De Vito's art was a nice change from the sloppiness of the past, but this issue, while bright in most respects, lacked intense visual detail. Having a bunch of flashbacks on how Nova could've prevented such terrible events from happening is a bright idea, yet I can't help but think it came off a little cheesy. Finally, the Sphinx has a lot of potential, 'til things got a little sloppy near the end with the "other" Sphinx.

I'm just not sure I feel too invested in this series anymore. Next issue, it's on you.

3/5 - For such a negative review, I still gave it a solid score. That's because it is solid, yet with this new Fault-driven status quo I can't help but expect a little more.

This is actually my last issue. I've just found myself less and less interested in this comic. I really can't explain it but it seems to have lost whatever interested me when it started.

#34 was a good issue, the old school set up was refreshing. A couple of developments should be interesting down the road: 1) Black Bolt discovering his tombstone and it saying Medusa died in something called the "Shadow War" 2) the part with Darkhawk talking about the Fraternity of Raptors' "masters"

Interesting...

This was a lot better than the recent Sphinx arc. We finally got to see the fall out from the Realm of Kings one-shot awhile back. "Dark" Quasar from the Cancer-verse is spreading the cancer and Rich is trying to stop him. Overall a good prelude to The Thanos Imperative.

Sad to see this series end (well officially on "hiatus" but you know how that goes) but not too worried cuz Nova will have a big role in the MU coming up.

i didn't realize this was the last issue. it ended with an open ending so i thought that we would get to see the end of this story

If this was the last issue of Nova I actually will not miss it. While I do love the stuff that D&A have been doing in the cosmic books this has been the least desirable of the ones I actually read. (Son of Hulk being the one that I don’t even bother with.) I can see the point of this story. They had to get Richard Ryder on Earth somehow and have him join one of the new Avengers teams that will be forming post-Siege.

In this issue the Marvel Universe basically figures out what people reading the Realm of Kings story arc all ready knew, there are two Quasars in 616. One of them is the one that we know and remember going into the fault in his astral form. The other is the creature that dwelled in the Earth-23, a.k.a Cathulu Earth, that somehow came through and deposited himself at the Project Pegasus facility.

Thankfully Nova made the right choice and save Earth instead of chasing the Quasar doppelganger, because that thing coming through the portal did not look like the friendly tentacle monster that universes like 616 are used to.

I don’t see how this leads up to Thanos Imperative, but I’m sure whatever D&A have coming for our cosmic heroes in the near future will be awesome. (Maybe a Silver Surfer…he is THE cosmic character isn’t he?)
