Immortal Weapons #5
I'm not going to lie. I'm glad this is over. Now I'm going to save $4/month (of course something else will probably replace this, but still). Other than Jason Aaron's incredible funny Fat Cobra book, the rest of this mini has been up and down. The second issue, focusing on the Bridge of Nine Spiders, was no better than your standard horror fair; the following issue about Dog Brother was surprisingly excellent; and the last issue pretty forgettable. Hell, I didn't even bother writing a review because I know it involved the Tiger's Beautiful daughter kicking butt, but nothing else.
Thankfully, this last and final one-shot perserveres. I was angry that the Bride of Nine Spiders issue avoided much of her origin, but here that method of "the right now" surprisingly works. The Prince of Orphans remains a mystery; for some he was also probably the least sexy figure of the five (and while he's not a pretty fellow, I mean that in terms of appeal). Throughout the issue, the same remains true. That just happens to be the beauty of it as Danny Rand takes over under the wisdom and guidance of this Prince. Even the name itself remains a mystery 'til the end (it's not as if Iron Fist didn't try to squabble it out of him either).
Thus, we've come down to this. If you don't know much about the Immortal Iron Fist, I highly suggest the Omnibus written by Fraction & Brubaker. And while Duane Swierczynski stumbles throughout his boring and unsurprising backup affair throughout these slew of minis, his run on Iron Fist is as strong as Fract & Bru's, taking Danny and his fellow Weapons from the Capital Cities of Heaven into the darkest, deepest alleys of hell. It was pretty epic; just a shame no one bought it. Thankfully we have the character living on with us in the Avengers books, with perhaps a Heroes For Hire title something we may see once again.
