I feel the need to be the anal correcty-jerk guy here.

No suit in the series or the OVA was called Nataku officially. There was the Shenlong, and then the Altron. Nataku is a nickname Wu Fei calls his suits. It was his late wife's nickname.

Also, the suits weren't rebuilt or redesigned for Endless Waltz per se. The designs were retcons. The first scene of Endless Waltz is one of the final scenes from the series proper, with the new designs in place. The designs in Endless Waltz closely resemble Hajime Katoki's original designs for the first five gundams - See the Look What I just got thread, I've posted two models of Katoki's original designs there.

As for the Tallgeese, the Tallgeese II isn't just similar, it's identical. Treize built it using spare parts and designs from the Tallgeese. The Tallgeese is also the father of all mobile suits in the series. It was deemed to hard to pilot for anyone not batshit crazy and they used its design to create the Leo. Treize also designed the Tallgeese III and the Epyon, with the latter being designed expressly for dueling.

Also, fun fact about the Wing Gundam - it actually first appeared in the previous series - G Gundam, as one of the many Gundams/Suits/various robots from other series in the final battle.

I think I should start writing about giant robots and related materials for PoP!

I knew all of this except that last bit about Wing Gundam, but as I was writing an article about the toys/models moreso than the source material, I didn't bother to explain where the name Nataku came from, nor the retcon nature of the custom designs. As far as the model kits were considered, the Deathscythe Hell Custom was a redesign of the Deathscythe Hell, since, y'know, you can't actually retcon a model someone already owns without a considerably well-trained wetworks team.

You underestimate the combined resources of Bandai and Sunrise.

Deathscythe Early version (Katoki):

Figure 8: Gundam Wing Xxxg-01d

Deathscythe Hell Custom:

Figure 8: Gundam Wing Gundam_Deathscythe_Hell_CustomW0

I'd post the rest but I'm lazy. Katoki did a really good job of re designing the original five gundams to match their Endless Waltz upgrades (or Predecesor, in Wing/Zero's case).

Master Grade Deathscythe Hell Custom is coming out this month, BTW. There's also a MG Shenlong ver. ka on the way. It's entirely possible they're going to do MGs of all the Katoki versions as well as the Endless Waltz suits. But then again, Bandai often sems afraid of money, so who knows. I'm still holding out for a Tallgeese.

As for the old wing kits, stay far, far away from the old 1/144s. They were terribad. The 1/100s weren't great, but they're decent.

There's also a Robot Damashii Wing Zero (TV I think) coming out this year.

That post confuses me.

Weren't 1/100th scale Master Grade? Wouldn't those be what I had before? Are you saying those releases were awful? Cause I kind of loved those.

You've got it all wrong.

Scale and grade are two different matters. Right now you've got the High Grade line (HGUC, HGAW, HGFC) which are 1/144 scale. These have the fewest parts (generally, there are exceptions, like the HGUC Kshatriya and Dendrobium Stamen). They are relatively simple, and have no internal frame, and limited articulation. The details aren't as good as larger kits generally speaking, but the HG line is a very solid one.

There are some HG models in 1/100 scale.

There are also No Grade models in both 1/100 and 1/60 sca;e.

Next up are the Master Grade models. MGs are all 1/100 scale. They have an internal frame, and much greater detail and posability.

The highest grade models are the Perfect Grades. They are 1/60 scale, have an internal frame, and have the most detail of all the kits. They're also the most expensive.

There's also one more line, the new Real Grade models. They're 1/144 scale, but have an internal frame like the MGs. They're also somewhat stylized from their anime counterparts - the RG RX-78-2 for example, looks just like the giant Gundam statue. They are a pain in the ass to build because they combine the complexity of a master grade with a smaller size.

lol gundam scale x grades

didnt u check out the gundam model kit scale and grade 101 i linked???

@grandicles - PG = most expensive is standard bandai release - most expesive though are the conversion kits / garage kits

there are custom scales by 3rd party like g-system who produces scales at 1/35 or 1/72

3rd party "customs" aka "garage kits" are usually in resin and very expensive.
there are i think 2 types of resin kits: conversion and full

full kit = resin statue @ fixed pose

convresion kit - you will need a base kit (the plastic kind) and then convert them to be something more custom of an upgraded (or sometimes downgraded) model

see:

and when i say pricey - these prices are on top of the base kit you will need to make it work

g-system:
http://www.g-system-shop.com/

neo-grade:
http://www.neograde.com/

VP - viciousprojects
http://www.vpmodel.com/products/products.html

there are even more 3rd party to 3rd party
sms and defier hobby:

defier hobby:
http://www.defierhobby.com/index.html?frame=top&main_windows=&javaID=152188adafa2fc84cbc662879bc1357b

these companies exist because there are lots of mechs that say gundam produeces a year but some just dont get the right detail or some mechs dont get produced at all but are "fan favorites".........sooo they make em for fans by fans - kinda like fansprojects for gundams Smile

hope that helps Smile

I didn't include 3rd party kits because they're, well, 3rd party. I like to forget that they exist. I don't like knowing that the only way I'll ever have a model of the Full-Armor Zeta is by having an HGUC (I don't like that scale) and paying B-Club my first born child for the add-on parts.

That is incorrect, as the ones I had were 1/100th scale. They may have been HG as opposed to MG, but I know what size they were.

I finally caved and watched it - I was trying to wait for the dub to come out, but I got tired of hiding threads about it in another board I frequent.

It was alright, and one of the better series tie-in movies that I've seen. I dug some of the suits before, but I like 'em even more after seeing them in action. I want a MG Zabanya. And maybe a MG Brave Commander Type.
