Campbell told Kerouac and me to our faces it was coming out (or don't you watch our videos) tongue
guilty

I... eh... missed that one...

Besides, I heard that 2-3 years ago. I like Campbell's art as much I'm a fan of Loeb, so whatever. It'll be just another way for Marvel to fuck Spidey and will sell huge because of the name attached to it, no matter what the quality of the story is.

Completely forgot about Cap: White. Didn't Marvel wait for Sale to finish his contract with DC to publish it? Or it expired just before issue #0 was published?

Purty art, but Loeb is a joke and so is the Ultimates line. Laughing

Loeb has made no bones about the fact that he teams with high profile art talent to drive up sales on his books. He has said "Liefeld sold a million copies of X-Force #1, so he must be a good artist." After nailing down the artist, it's just a matter of coasting on lowest common-denominator storytelling and not really paying attention to what else is going on. It makes it easier to focus on TV writing, where you sort of have to actually do work.

It really bums me out that Art Adams is working with him, because I love his work so damn much.

What I want to know is where are these legions of Jeph Loeb fans that love his books so much. They have to exist, but where do they hide?

They obviously don't have the Internet.

Writers sell the books, case closed. In the past, Loeb has written some gems, and while they don't strike a chord with all of us, a lot of the other writers at Marvel stand by him, too. I'll definitely give it a try, especially with Art Adams providing the art.

I doubt most of them stand by him not because of their contracts with the same publisher. They won't criticize their employer and co-workers in public. Not everyone is as big a name and careless as Grant Morrison, you know.

Loeb was a good screenwriter in the '80s, but the move to comics made him a superstar in this small industry and pushed his head right up his ass, sadly.

I will always cherish Spider-Man: Blue as one of my all-time favorite stories, but I hate 99% of anything Loeb has written.

But I think for a lot of people its characters over content sometimes. Look at Ultimatum. It was everything from the Ultimate Universe bundled together, so almost everyone reading anything Ultimates was reading it just to see how the universe they liked was going to change. At my shop there were plenty of folks reading the book and rolling their eyes, just hoping for it all to be over so they could get Ultimate Spider-Man or Ultimates by Millar back.

Same thing with the Hulk. World War Hulk was pretty big, and I know the delays almost seemed to help the book, as each issue that came out people would sort of forget to take it off their pulls and go "Okay, I'll give it one more try." Two months later it's "Oh yeah, I was going to drop this but...I don't know, I really like Hulk and this is all I have, even if it doesn't bear any resemblance to the really good Hulk stories they've been telling the past couple of years. I'll get one more issue." Lather, rinse, repeat. Now that there's a title that actually pays attention to Bruce Banner written by people who know how to do such things (even if he's not the Hulk any more, y'know...'cause Red Hulk said so. That's another one of his powers, like punching Thor to the moon. Because he's the best damn bad ass character of all time), I'm seeing a lot more drift over to that title and people leaving Strawberry Hulk like it it punched their mama.

I didn't know which one to choose. I feel dumb.

Anyways, I don't have this mad-on towards Loeb like so many. He's okay. Haven't read anything great from the guy in a while, but it doesn't mean he doesn't have the stuff. I will say that I keep forgetting Ultimate Marvel is still a line. Stopped reading that line before it even peaked.

I don't think Disney will make decisions like that. I don't imagine they'll be involved in the day-to-day going-ons at Marvel.

That's probably why there you don't share our frustration. Pretty much the quality of work he's done for Marvel since he left DC has dropped precipitously. It's as if he decided that to write for the average Marvel reading, he had to dumb his work down by about 50 IQ points, which I think is a little insulting.

[quote="Lee"] I will admit to buying 5 issues of Hulk literally to see how bad it could get, which indeed makes me part of the problem.quote]

This is senseless. U bought $20 worth of Incredible Red Turd to see how bad it could get?

I took everyones word on Hulk and steared clear. Loeb used to write really good stories but hes obviously lost his shit and needs to retire.

Dont feel too bad for Jeph Loeb Long Halloween will always rock.

I just don't think I can even give them that many issues. Ultimates 3 and Ultimatum were pretty much 2 of the worst written series I've ever bought (DC's recent Final Crisis: Escape is pretty much number 1 at this point in time) and I just don't believe I can keep forking my money over to Marvel for work by Loeb in the hope that he comes good. Even if I can't make much of an impact on overall sales I feel like I have to do my bit. As far as I'm concerned the guy is writing garbage.

I think I'll take the approach of not getting the books and then if surprisingly everyone loves them then I'll get on the bandwagon. It's safer.
