Its a limited series called SHIELD, written by Hickman and drawn by Dustin Weaver. It tells the secret history of SHIELD dating all the way back to Ancient Egypt. It reveals how some of the greatest icons in history protected Earth from threats like Galactus and the Celestials!

I love it! I think those people who've only read Secret Warriors and Fantastic Four will discover he's even better than what he's been doing there. I think he's a truly imaginative writer and this sounds right up his alley. I think another strength of his is that he seems very good at designing a story (in other words he has a structure to it)which is something a lot of writers fall short on.

Looks very interesting. I love the stuff that has been currently been done with SHIELD and Hydra. The layers of complexity that seem to be part of this whole deal is absolutely wonderful and makes for a great mystery. And that teaser/cover art rocks.

I really wish he had won Top Cow's Pilot Season with his book The Core. It had so much potential.

Top Cow sucks. Not only that today they mostly publish books I can't see myself reading, they've fired Mel Caylo last year.

That new teaser might explain some stuff about Da Vinci.

If Hickman writes it, I read it, there are no more if's and's or buts about it anymore.

That being said, this series has bad-assery written all over it just from the preview images.

Hickman interview on S.H.I.E.L.D.
http://comics.ign.com/articles/107/1071528p1.html

I'm really looking forward to this book. I love the concepts Hickman is describing. The idea of these great minds throughout history essentially being the superheroes of their day is just damn intriguing.

Here's the solicit btw:

S.H.I.E.L.D. #1
Written by JONATHAN HICKMAN
Penciled by DUSTIN WEAVER
Cover by GERALD PAREL
Historical Variant by DUSTIN WEAVER
Black & White Issue Variant also available
Leonardo Da Vinci was an agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. So was Issac Newton. So were Imhotep and Zhang Heng and Galileo and many other geniuses throughout time. They were the first heroes to defeat Galactus and the Brood and turn Celestials back. They saved the world long before Captain America or Iron Man were ever born, but what does this mean to our heroes of today? What does this mean to Nick Fury? Do not miss this Marvel Comics masterpiece that fans will be talking about for decades to come. All the insanity is courtesy of JONATHAN HICKMAN (FANTASTIC FOUR, SECRET WARRIORS, Nightly News) and DUSTIN WEAVER (X-MEN).
40 PGS./Rated T+ ...$3.99
