Awesome confirmation. So getting this. Christos has been rocking Initiative. And McKone is just icing.

Wow.

Hrrm... she reminds me too much of Dust. Especially with the "my powers will kill me" part. Hopefully Gage will do a much better job, though, than Guggenheim did.

You get the cream if you send Marvel 20 copies of the first JMS Superman issue variant cover, ruined by crayons.

So wait, Marvel canceled four Avengers titles and is now launching 4 "new" titles that, as far as I can tell, are essentially the same thing?

Why are you surprised? They did exactly the same with the X-books "relaunch" in 2001 and again in 2004. They can't just let go of four successful ongoing books. Even with Spider-Man back in late '07, they've canceled two ongoings and made the remaining third book a thrice-a-month title, retaining the schedule.

It is the Marvel way.

It's pretty much the way to get people interested. I mean, when you give people a #1 issue of something, you're going to gain interest from people about that product and when you have such a reboot to this particular franchise like the Avengers, people are going to be curious and check it out. It's smart business.

I'm not sure how people are coming to the conclusion that these Avengers books are all the same thing as before. Avengers by Bendis and JRJR seems very different from anything going right now, Secret Avengers by Bru and Deodato seems completely different from anything right now, and even Avengers Academy seems pretty different from Avengers Initiative. Looks like its gonna have new characters and such. The only book that seems similar is New Avengers (obviously) but even then we don't quite know the full story. The main thing is, the heroes are back in charge, so all these Avengers book will be in a very different place from where they are now and have been for several years.

Hmm.. not interested yet. I'm unfamiliar with Gage, would prefer Slott, and that pic for some reason reminds me too much of those meh superheroes in that "Who wants to be a superhero" or whatever it was called in Neil Gaiman's 'Elementals.' But McKone is good, so I'll wait 'till I see and find out more.

I was really hoping New Avengers was going to be like New X-Men, when it was training the next generation of kids. It seemed like the NewNew Avengers (not to be confused with John Sununu's Avengers) would be a good line-up for that kind of thing...but apparently we're going to go back to 4 on-goings so they continue to eat their own tail. Kind of a bummer, if you ask me. Even though it's Bendis written, NewNew just feels like the odd man out.

Eh. I don't mind. I think the Avengers Academy is a cool name for this title. OUt of all of the titles, I have never been a fan of the New Avengers. Not the team. Just the title. It just doesn't seem to fit. I agree that if they didn't call this Avengers Academy then New Avengers for this title would have been more appropriate.

Another new character. This title could have some nice potential. Avengers Initiative introduced some really great new characters throughout its run and I could see this book doing the same. I hope some of the Initiative ones like Cloud 9, Hardball, MVP, Trauma, etc. make the transition over, maybe as instructors this time.

I think the titles seem appropriate. From the looks of this title, its going to be something of a school or training facility for young heroes so Avengers Academy fits pretty nice. And as far as New Avengers goes, so far all the members announced just aren't traditional Avengers from the glory days. They're all relatively "new" Avengers or non-classic Avengers. So I think that makes some sense as well.

These guys are so going to die. I wouldn't mind a title like the old Mike Aldred X-force and X-statics where someone dies every month. They could have "training accidents" or other problems doing field work. Avengers Acadamy could be a new reality TV show, and all you have to do is survive until the next reboot to become an Avenger.
