Marvel offers retailers a 'rare' variant, in exchange for unsold DC comics

Diamond doesn't care, the amount of books ordered for blackest night went through them. Did diamond care that Hasbro does their own promotion through Marvel with the Nick Fury thing? Does diamond complain about digital comics?

I say only about 200 of these get printed, maybe 250 total. What is the point of using a distribution house that isn't going to track the incoming torn covers for them? I don't htink it will matter at all. The rarity of the book will be what is the chase. I just hope they serial number it.

Yeah, Diamond being upset is a non-starter. They don't care that Marvel is going to accept returns or send out a variant. It's a free promo deal that they wouldn't be making money on. Ultimately, Diamond isn't concerned with a lot of what Marvel & DC does. They send out the comics, they get their cut and they're happy. The less they can do while still getting that cut, the better.

I'm just bringing up an issue made on the Beat, which is an industry source (unlike CBR or Rama which are consumer sources). I would assume its an issue if it's brought up in this instance.

Marvel should steal Ed Benes from DC and let him do every Deadpool cover, with extra ass.

That is one of the worst covers I have ever seen.

I love Campbell..this could have been better. I think they should have taken another shot at the ring promotion and Deadpool is the perfect character to do it with.

That being said this is not a cover I would spend money on.

It's.....Deadpool. Honestly, I see nothing special about it.

I have to say that Quesada does this kind of crap and then wonders why DC does not want to do a Batman/Daredevil crossover.

First of all, I'm pretty sure this is a marketing ploy more than a creative one, and it's not Quesada's department (though as one of the heads of Marvel's publishing division he probably knew about it). Secondly, the reasons for DC's decline to work with Marvel run deeper than Quesada. If at all, without Paul Levitz running DC anymore, there are bigger chances it will be more open to the competition. At least, there were until this ugly move.

I am not trying to paint Marvel with one brush. They do a lot of great stuff. I just hate this kind of thing. I'm happy when Marvel succeeds. I'm happy when ANY comics company succeeds. The spin on this is just pure hot air, everyone knows it. Bleah.

This isn't 'friendly competition.' It's classless, and more than a bit hypocritical.

But please, do NOT stop buying Marvel books you like. The creators of these books think this is classless too, and they would be the ones damaged by that action, not the people who came up with this idea. There are a ton of great Marvel books, and they are not behind any of this.

I like the girls' faces, and it is a pretty good drawing. I just...I have a sense of humor, and with Deadpool you have to, but that cover doesn't look appealing to me. Should've made it a pop-up cover or something. That'd be a whole new level of variants that Marvel'd burn up the idea of in about half a year. Heh.

I don't remember the particular interview but I do remember her not loving her time at Marvel and remember her saying something along the lines that she would feel hesitant going back. I think she used the term, "Boys Club" to describe her time at Marvel.
