Anyone want to talk about a particular scene/event in the book? What stood out for you?

Oh, so many things. The Yonkers scenario was pretty real-life. An ill-preparedness due to the lack of logic because of bullshit like making things look good getting in the way of tactics, including the tactic of retreat. Poor news lady. Plus, when you're in a tank, do you really have to haul butt from zombies chasing you? ;0P

The whole traffic ring selling normal things, like bottled water and actually shipping people was very realistic too.

Any scene where they were killing enough zombies to build a huge ass wall of corpses stands out to me.

The States' "last" stand against the zombies was pretty rad.

The Japanese kid escaping his apartment, and then meeting up with the blind man, whom was also very interesting in his new state of being in the world. A blind man, in a world of chaos, is at peace. I just thought that meant so much.

May be reiterating--I suppose the book is a grand reflection of the human-condition and the world's societal mentalities, in that Brooks took a darkly fantastical element to pronounce our flaws and strengths as people, no matter culture, sex, and character. Pretty much everything was hit upon that needed to be.

I know I'm behind, damn school, but I loved the part in the sub, where they were so afraid of joining society and once they did they had their fears confirmed.

It's just one of those be careful what you wish for type scenarios.

I really enjoyed Peter & Max. I'll be buying it...well, once I get some money. Smile

I loved how Willingham tied together the fairy tales and rhymes. Man, Bigby was evil!! It was cool.

I finished The Dragonbone Chair by Tad Williams today. I had read this one back in high school, and I remember enjoying it quite a bit. After reading it again, I have to say I enjoyed it even more this time around. I think age and experience really made a difference for me on this one. I appreciated the politics of the story so much more! Williams gives us memorable, likeable characters that you get to know throughout the length of the story. My only complaint is that the story starts out so very slowly! Beyond that, we see and engaging main character in Simon. We see him grow as a character from Mooncalf to Snowlock. At first, I was really kinda tired of Simon because of his whining and complaining. But by the end of the book, he's become something more than the apprentice he started out as. Definitely worth the read if you like complex plots and intrigue!

Ok, so apparently the novel was better in my mind than in actuality. It took 100 pages to get to the juicy parts. Goodness!

Has anyone else read the book?
