Gotta Catch em All!

We knew that this game was coming, and my family held back and only got 2 copies knowing that crucifix crystal or whatever the inevitable director's cut for this pair will be called.

These games are remakes of the classic GameBoy Color generation of Pokemon, Gold and Silver. Your choices of starting pokemon are: Chikorita, Toadadile, and Cydaquil. Same formula as most of the games. Choose your pokemon, go on a quest to defeat the 8 gym leaders while helping people along the way. Then on to the Elite Four in your quest to become the pokemon champ. While that may sound stale, it is important to remember that they have added a lot to this game. It is not just an update of the orignals, they are reboots. There are ways to incorperate the pokemon from different regions, and many more at the Safari Zone. There has been no word yet as to any new pokemon being unveiled in this installment, but players are crossing their fingers to hit the 500 mark soon. Many of the DS features have been brought to the game, including PalPark to upload pokemon from the GBA cartridges, WiFi Battles, and the WiFi MiniGames as well.

The new feature that has come with this game is the Poke'walker. The Poke'walker is a small device you can carry around with one of your pokemon on it. What do you do with this pokemon? Well you walk around with it. The Poke'walker is a fat kids worst enemy (or best friend which ever way you look at it) a pedometer. The leveling and fighting of a pokemon on the Poke'walker is dependent on how many steps you take. This includes the random encounters and items of different rarities you can find. As a bonus there are different maps that can be down loaded to the Poke'walker, the first special one available when you upload your exclusive Jirachi to your Poke'Walker.

This is the same old greatest RPG of all time, with some new twists to it.

So who else got it?

I picked mine up yesterday. Have to say that I'm disappointed that the Pokewalker only bestows up to one level on the "walking" pokemon per day.

There are a lot of cool additions in this game that separate it from the others in my mind. I like that you basically get to play through more than one game, including selecting from each group of starters as the game progresses (except D/P/P I think).

There are also a lot of cool mini-games. Yeah, I'm a huge dork... but I enjoy it. And it looks like they're already working on the 5th generation games. They've got some pictures released of two new pokemon from the next series.

All-in-all, I'm enjoying it so far. Have my Pokewalker in pocket at work right now.

I'm hoping the BF comes home with mine today. I can't wait!

I actually broke out Platinum and leveled up my lvl 74 Magikarp so he evolved into Gyrados.

Agh...those starters. They're not my favorite (although, Totodile is an awesome one to take, because he evolves into Feraligator, which is a powerful Water-type), but I guess I can always trade for the other game starters. Laughing

I have all the starters all ready.... well actually I have 493 different pokemon's on my platinum. So if you need trades guys, let me know, i'll breed something. I like to make my pokemons poke'hump at the day care. I'll even make custom ones with different move sets. one of my favorites is my level 5 Magby that knows Psychic, thunderpunch, brickbreak, and flame-thrower. I wish there was a faster way to trade pokemon over. 6 at a time is sooooooo weak.

Okay, so I got SoulSilver yesterday, and could scream. The first gym is a real pain in the ass. I've got to go beat the grass and see if I can figure out how to beat that damned Pidgeotto and his Roost move. grrr

Nah...it's too early to have the trade capability to get a Pikachu. I've just got to level up my Onix and he can probably do the job.

Oh, yeah? There's a reason for me to get off my fat ass. Laughing

I actually defeated Violet City with Onix. I managed to teach him Rock Smash, which greatly improved my odds. Now the Union Room and other stuff are open, so I can start trading Pokemon in from my Platinum game. BWAHAHAHA.

I just found out the picachu you cant get until you unlock the Yellow Field with the April event download coming up. This game is so big, there are only 14 pokemon out of 496 that you can not get in this game. That is sick. Also picachu is in the jhoto dex so you can trade him to the game early on. My daughter also tells me that with the poke'walker that if you level your pokemon, take it off the walker, then put it back on, you can level it again in the same day. I can not wait to pick up my copy....watching the kids play is killing me. And school starts back up next week.

Time. Time you are an asshole.

Flareon instead of Charizard, Nine Tails, or Arcanine? Interesting.

I used Flareon, because if I breed him with Ditto, I get Evees, which turn into various other Pokemon. Wink

ah. So many pokemon too. I wonder where the spots are to evolve the ice and grass one are in this game. This game is frickin huge. Just from what I've seen on the Net. I pick my copy up on thursday next week. then I can carry not only my wife and kids' poke'walker when I'm on the oliptical, but my onw. I have fealt so used this last week.

Did you know that you can now pass on stat values in a controlled way in SS and HG. All you have to do is have it hold one of the bands from Platinum for each corresponding stat. Breeding just got a little more complex than egg moves and EV training.

Doug, do you have any pokemon infected with pokirus? I need one. 4 generations into the game and i've never caught it. I did get my first shini poke'mon the other day. Fuckin Golbat. I wish it was something cooler like a mime jr or something.

You get all the evolution stones either at the Pokeathlon Dome for points won in the Games, or sometimes one of the Trainers registered in your phone will call and have one for you.

I've yet to have any Pokemon catch the pokevirus. I hear good things about it, but I haven't seen it yet.

Actually, looking over my SS Pokedex, it appears that Leafeon and Glaiceon aren't evolvable in HG or SS. You'll have to transfer them in from Platinum, Diamond, or Pearl.

The other stones, however, are available in the locations I mentioned earlier.

I'm on my 3rd Kanto Gym now, after beating the Johto elite 4. This game seems to have a lot less story that the others... not that I mind that much.

Haven't got much great stuff from the pokewalker yet, but it sure makes leveling my shiny Shedinja easier. I also like that I don't have to buy pokeballs to catch stuff with it... it'll make transferring everything from platinum easier once I'm ready to do so because my boxes will already be filled with plenty of dupes.

So... I guess the question is: When is the Official POP Pokemon tournament?

Good thing I saw this thread before I made my own. I got SoulSilver while I was down in Louisiana. I am seriously also thinking of investing in another DS so I can trade from my Pearl. I like that they added a feature from Yellow that lets your lead Pokemon follow you around. Although at the time I thought it was just your starting Pokemon that did it. I'm already in Goldenrod.

I beat the Kanto gyms and Red on Mt. Silver today, and have already collected my new starter from Professor Oak. Now I just need to fill out my National Pokedex and climb all the rock faces that I had to walk by before.

PICK UP EVERY POKEBALL YOU SEE. That's the only way to the get the Leaf Stone, which is key in evolving an Evee into a Leafeon.

or you can trade a leafstone that you mined in the underground from Diamond/Pearl/Platinum. They are easy to get there. Or you can buy them in Fire Red/leaf green at the dept store and import a pokemon through pal park.

Remember you can log onto Nintendo WiFi this month and get access to the Yellow Forest on your Poke'Walker. It lets you catsh some special pickachus like ones that know Surf and FLY.

You don't need a master ball to catch Suicune with. just use Wobafett so it can't run away and put it to sleep. It takes a bit. but it is definately doable. But if you really need a masterball i think I have an extra one on my Platinum.... got any shiny pokemon or a PP max?

Woo! I've gotten all three of the regional starters, now (Johto, Kanto, and Hoenn), and am just wandering around trying to catch the legendaries.

I can't wait for Pokemon Black & White! Especially with new Pokemon and evolutions being introduced!
