Wow, quite possibly the most epic tennis match of all-time just went down!

http://sports.espn.go.com/sports/tennis/wimbledon10/news/story?id=5319726

"The longest match in tennis history was suspended because of darkness at 59-59 in the fifth set at Wimbledon on Wednesday night.

The first-round match between 23rd-seeded John Isner of Tampa, Fla., and qualifier Nicolas Mahut of France had already been suspended because of fading light Tuesday night after the fourth set.

They have been playing each other for a total of exactly 10 hours -- 7 hours, 6 minutes in the fifth set alone, enough to break the full-match record of 6:33, set at the 2004 French Open."

to be continued tomorrow...

The American prevailed!

WIMBLEDON, England -- Nicolas Mahut had successfully served to stay in this gargantuan match 64 consecutive times, but the 65th felt different from the beginning.

The 28-year-old Frenchman hit his head with his free hand even before an ill-advised drop shot fell woefully short, a rare moment of confusion in a remarkable run of consistently good decisions. At 30-all -- a perilous position in the context of this match with John Isner -- the American rifled a forehand pass. He pumped his fist with a surprising vigor and returned to the baseline with his fifth match point.

When a lovely backhand pass sailed past Mahut, Isner -- all 6-foot-9 of him -- tumbled to the dry grass on Court No. 18, and the longest match in the history of tennis was suddenly, oddly, over.

Savor this score, for you will probably never see its kind again: 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (7), 7-6 (3), 70-68.

That is insane! Standing ovation for both men for not just collapsing on the court.

The match lasted just over 11 hours. It's amazing. Both men were honored for this match and both guys were so classy about it all.

However, the American lost in the 2nd round.
