I've never owned a tablet myself, but I know they provide more control than a mouse. If you are just looking to practice with the tablet, some good control exercises might be coloring in line art, or maybe grabbing a logo and recreating it with the pen tool.

I've got the Wacom Intuos 4.... what exactly are you wanting to do in the way or art? Drawing with it, coloring?

I can recommend some books if you'd like.

I love mine, it took some getting used to but after putting together the Princess Logos yesterday with the mouse again I missed my tablet.

So jealous! I have an older Wacom (Intuos3), and my first suggestion is to make sure that all of your drivers are properly installed so that you can take full advantage of the pressure/tilt features that it offers.

THIS. Or, one of my fave things to do is just scribble and see what comes out of it. Use a variety of brushes and pen styles. Just play with it. You will learn a lot just by goofing off and trying weird things.

I hope this helps!

I hear ya. I actually use mine for editing audio (better slicing control, and faster), but my pen has gone AWOL. It'll turn up, but DAMN! Annoying! Until then I have to use a stupid mouse.

Yeah, I've been doing the coloring in excercise today but now my damn tablet's not responding to the pen, my mom says we might have to take it in to staples tomorrow. It seems to f**k up whenever I unplug and replug it back in my laptop. Other than that, the tips of experimenting sound solid to me.

I finished my first photoshop! How do I put it on here? I tried pressing host an image, but it made no sense to me. I put it on my facebook and no one but my sister's said anything about it (kinda a punch to my ego).

If you view the image in facebook, right-click (ctrl-click on a Mac) it and choose "Copy Image Location". This will give you the direct url of the image so you can post it here. You could also open a photobucket account and upload the image there to get it to post here.

I did just that and then I copied the code and put in the host image box, but now its saying the URL is incomplete.

Don't use Host Image (it's looking to upload the file to the PoP servers), just use the img tags.

I did it!!!!! well, thats my very first photoshop excercise. I recolored it and all. No one but my sister from my FB notices it and that makes my ego feel small. Damn them! Any way to make it better fitting for the post?

Pretty cool Spider fan, I have a book to recommend that is extremly awesome if you are intrested.

Hi-Fi Color for Comics by Brian & Kristy Miller. It comes with a cd rom full of things you can work at coloring. I highly recommed it if you are looking into coloring.

I might look into that. Sounds kinda cool, coloring is a pretty important part of a comic book and can really influence a work, maybe that'd be a good fall back thing for me.

i have a new problem with Photoshop;

The eyedropper tool isnt working. I click on a color and the eyedropper makes it lighte without me doing it. How should I fix it?

You might be in CMYK color mode. Not every color that's available in RGB mode is reproducible in CMYK so the computer chooses the next closest color, which is often lighter than what you've selected.

Make sure that if you want to work in CMYK that your palette is in CMYK as well, or convert to RGB and understand that if you were working in comics that you'd need to be in CMYK. Web comics are fine in RGB as they won't be getting printed but CMYK is the standard for the print format. Very Happy

^ That didn't work. To be specific, when I eyedrop on grey, it becomes like almost white. When I switched from PS Elements 7.0 to PS CS5 (64 bit), it didn't do it.
