I realise not many people may be reading it but I had to start a thread about this excellent book. Seriously, this is top notch work here by Carey and Gross and pretty much one of my favourite comics each month now. There's a wonderful mystery building here which I'm perfectly satisfied having revealed slowly (I'm enjoying the not knowing exactly what's happening).

Anyone else getting this gem?

Last ish I read was #5. Such fluent stortelling. I'm getting a kick out of the blog/messageboard-text and the other themes of literature as mystical. Like being able to communicate through books, like Lizzie Hexum, and Tom gaining courage from being in Roncevaux. With that last development's eye-widener, can't wait for the next issue.

Starting to really treasure this series.

I only read the first issue as I generally wait for the trades , but i thought it was one of the best first issues I've ever read. Really looking forward to this being collected. I'm not usually a big fan of Carey's but this was just awesome. I can't wait.

I think this will work really well in trades but now I'm into it I couldn't handle waiting that long. I was the same as you in relation to Carey but after the first issue I just had this sense of something special going on here and I haven't been wrong yet.

Oh, yeah. The Unwritten is my favorite new series of the year (followed closely by The Unknown). I'm always a sucker for stories about stories, and this one's holding up well.

I have to agree with everyone in this thread thus far. I put off reading the title originally, dismissing it mindlessly, then I read a preview in the back of Authority or some Wildstorm book and liked it. After getting the story, I realized what I had been missing. I truly enjoy this tale as it weaves here and there, essentially taking no prisoners (*rimshot*) and leading the main character from the comfort of his placid existence to his current less than ideal situation. I must admit, it has been a joy to read.

^ You know, right when I got to the blog page, before I even read it, I considered the possibility that everything written, even by average Joes and Janes, have power, not just certain works and users ("authors"). And then I read the Inside Man Blog and instantly knew. Like when Savoy mentioned Wiki is always true. Wink Heh. It gave me a new perspective. Something that I hadn't noticed before. I have a feeling, with the incoming mercs, that we'll see Frank sooner rather than later.

Issue #8 gives a bit more background into why the warden hates Tom so much and shows how obsessed his daughter is with the Tommy Taylor books (not dissimilar I'm sure to some kids (and adults?) and their Harry Potter obsession in the real world).

It is really starting to appear obvious that a central theme for this series is around the power of stories and words.

I definitely thought it was pretty awful what happened to them but yeah I wasn't expecting that ending at all. It's great when comics surprise you. I was literally looking at the page thinking "what the hell's happening here?". Great stuff.

I really love this book.

Just read #8. Slow pacing through that issue, but I'm sure 9 is about to pack a punch.

That ending...yeesh. That was a heartbreaker and an ominous return of a character yet fully told about. The little girl was right about her daddy, and it being inside of him.

Enjoyed the Q&A with Carey and Gross.

Issue #10 was more wonderful stuff in what I think must be my favourite new book of the last year. It's a very interesting world Mike Carey and Peter Gross have created here and I'm loving discovering it. I'm thinking perhaps there's not too much to worry about with Tom as it's starting to become evident that he's not a real person.

Have to say the covers for this book have been great.
