I realized the other day that I've never really showed off our Alex Ross collection. While I realize that people are either in love with Ross or hate his work, you can see that my BF and I fall into the 'love it' category. So, I would like to share our really awesome collection (at least the stuff we've gotten framed. There's soooo much more beyond what's shown here. Literally tons and tons of stuff).

So, here we go! Sorry for the pic quality. I suffer from shaky hands, and the cam app that accounts for that sucks on a zoom.

Alex Ross Art JusticeleagueAR

Original Seven -- A grail piece for the BF.

Alex Ross Art LegionAR

Legion of Super-Heroes -- the other grail piece, as I am a Legion fan, and the BF is a Mike Grell fan, and those are the costumes that Ross uses in this piece.

Alex Ross Art SpectreAR

This is easily the most valuable piece in our collection. The production proof for a cover of JSA; the image was cropped to cut away the cape for the cover. However, the original art was damaged beyond repair upon transit back to Ross, so there may be as few as two other proofs in the world, or this could very well be the only one, as most proofs are destroyed after color corrections.

Alex Ross Art XmennamorAR

X-Men and Namor lithographs, signed by Ross. The smaller piece is a pencil sketch of Superman done by Ross.

Alex Ross Art BedroomAR1

Bedroom - Wall One

Alex Ross Art BedroomAR2

Bedroom - Wall Two

Alex Ross Art BedroomAR3

Bedroom - Wall Three

Alex Ross Art FridgemagnetsAR

Various refrigerator magnets that the BF has found here and there.

Alex Ross Art AquamanAR

And, to make sure that there's Ross in every room in the house, this picture of Aquaman, from a piece done for Lee's Comics, resides on our bathroom wall.

Like I said, though, there's sooo much more waiting to be framed and for us to have a bigger place with the wall space to display it.

Very Cool! I'll be meeting the man for the second time next weekend when he signs at my local shop. I like his work when it is framed more than when it is on the page, if that makes sense.

If we get to go to Chicago next time around, we're hoping that he'll be in attendance. I'd love to show him those pictures, and especially the one of the Spectre proof.

Feel free to give him the PoP! forum address and tell him about this thread! tongue I'd love to get his reaction!

My dream, of course, is to one day win the lottery and perhaps get a commissioned piece from him. I'd love a piece with his Kingdom Come Superboy & Supergirl with his idea of the KC Legion of Super-Pets. tongue Of course, if I had that kind of money to throw around, we'd be building our dream house with the special 'Hall of Heroes' wing that would be more like a museum than a display room. Very Happy

Thanks for all the kind words, guys! I'd show off our statue collection in another thread, but it's vast and in serious need of dusting. tongue

I bought this one for Andy a few years ago... it's HUGE like 6 foot wide. He's yet to make a frame for it but it's supposed to go over his drawing table in the Batcave.

I've love to get it signed for him someday.

We have that one, too! Pretty much, if you can name an Alex Ross DC print, we have it. Same with the Marvel stuff, with a couple of exceptions.

It's totally worth it to have it professionally framed. Just talk him out of some silly color matte. Black on Black or white on white. Never should the twain meet.

It's cost $600 to have it framed and everywhere we've looked to have it framed they say "We can't get a piece of glass that big, so it'll be plexi-glass." AND they can't get matte big enough to make it worth our while.

He's a woodworker, he can make a frame, WITH a glass front for FAR less than $600.

Please, for the love of God and good taste, paint that frame black or white, and find the matte to match it. Natural wood frames rarely look good on a piece that large, and goofy colors/weird matching would only distract from the artwork. I love you

Of course. Everything in his basement is framed in black. I can't seem him suddenly changing his mind. Very Happy

Someday, when I get an awesome job, I want to get him something original of his artwork. Instead of just a one in a million poster.

Someday I'll be rich enough to afford something like this.

it's ONLY $19,000

I finally was able to find it, which is sad to say considering that this is probly the most valuable comic in my collection because of this. Anyway, here it, a while back, Mr. Ross used to do free sketches and here is one he did of Roue for me. He had also mentioned while he was doing this that that was teh first time he had drawn her.
