There's making light, and there's being a jerk to make yourself look funny on the internet. At least when you were joking Pete, they were your jokes, and you were laughing to try and help alleviate a really shitty situation. I don't really see anyone who started this thread laughing right now. These are rights that people are trying to take away, and I would think we would be able to make it more than six posts in before someone's treating it like a joke.
Obviously I don't hide my politics on here, and the one time I tried to say something about politics regarding a freaking comic book, it totally got jammed back in my face, so now even when someone says something kinda shitty, I feel like I literally can't say "I think that's kind of offensive" without it being MY problem because I'M the one who just can't take the joke. I get that bullshit from fuckwads who leave 4-chan long enough to troll the sites I like to visit, so when I see it here it gets really fucking frustrating.
Especially when the most frequent excuse is, "LOL what's your problem, it's just jokes, I'm not seriously like this in real life."
But here's the thing. We're a pretty tight-knit community here and we're pretty inclusive to anyone wanting to join this crazy little family, so the "this isn't me IRL" excuse doesn't really fly here because a lot of us have seen each other IRL. If this isn't how you act in real life, how am I supposed to know that you're NOT a total tool when I meet you at C2E2? Internet interactions do count, even if you don't think they should, and I seriously don't want to think that anyone here is some asshole. I really don't! I want to hang out with everyone and have an amazing time and not feel like I can't talk to certain people for whatever reason. So yeah.
