Ah, board games. Remember when families and friends actually played games in situations where they were forced to look at each other? Sure you do. List your best and worst board games, and why.

Feel free to share funny board game stories, too.

Best:

LIFE -- A classic board game that, for some reason, has always been at the top of my favorites list. I couldn't begin to tell you why, but I love life-simulation games and I think this is where that started.

Sorry! -- Another classic. I think everyone has, at one point, taken malicious glee as they sent someone's token home with a sarcastically insincere 'Sorry!'

Trouble!/Headache -- Pop-o-matic bubble. 'Nuff said.

Mousetrap -- Rube Goldberg madness with little plastic mice. I never owned a copy of the game myself, but I drove my friends that did have it crazy with wanting to play it all the time.

Dungeon!
-- What can I say? It's D&D trimmed to its barest essence. My friends and I would manipulate the rules to make it more difficult, but it was always a welcome game to pull out.

Uncle Wiggly -- Yes, I know what it sounds like. But it was Candyland for the reading kid. Both sets of grandparents owned a copy of the game, so it was always available to play.

Scrabble -- I love it, but no one will play it with me because they say my vocabulary is too big. Sad

WORST:

Monopoly -- I suck at handling money, and this game proves it. However, I own a number of Monopoly games.

Payday -- See above, only with snarkier cartoons and more opportunities to prove how dumb I am.

Battleship -- I confess to loving this game, but being horrible at it. I used to be a terrible cheat.

So c'mon already! Share!

Mouse trap is awesome!

We can't play monopoly in this house after the last game of it caused a civil war between me and my brother

Mousetrap is like board game blue balls. All you ever really wanted was to turn the crank and get shit moving. The game meant NOTHING.

Also, Battleship rocks!

I'm gonna throw Othello, Stratego and Trouble into the mix of awesomeness.

Clue is my all time favorite board game, I want the new edition so bad. Harry Potter Clue rules too, but I don't get to play it often.

Pictionary man is an awwwweeeesome game.

Apples to Apples of course (nothing beats the time my friend laid down Rosa Parks for things that are lazy. And before people get really offended, it's a great joke, and his African American girlfriend laughed harder than any of us)

My dad is a big war guy, like knows everything about any war, but particularly loves war planes and the such. He has an old game called Dog Fight where you control three planes in ww1 and try to kill the other planes. it's fun, but i've never won Sad

Life is one of the best board games i've ever played.
When it comes to Monopoly, I'd rather be banging pots and pans around for 2 hours.

Monopoly sucks. Period. Apples to apples is some good times. I recently played Cranium with the in-laws and it's pretty fun, too. You have to sculpt stuff.

OVERKILL TIME!!
OMG I used to play alot of boardgames, sometimes by myself since I couldn't find anybody who liked to play as much as me. Crying or Very sad

I tended towards the mentally chaotic or adrenaline type, and less of the slow paced strategic (I disliked Risk, Stratego and Monopoly, but did play Life alot). For awhile I was addicted to Pay Day, but I'm not sure why because I always lost miserably and got depressed. FYI, my financial habits have not changed.

I played Trouble when I could get people to join me, and we didn't have Sorry!, but I'm sure I woulda loved that one too (both teach your kids to be evil and vindictive young!).

There was also that Booby-trap wooden spring trap game that had cirle pieces of different sizes (worth different points) you had to pull out, and when you pulled the wrong one the whole spring board SNAPPED really loud and pieces went flying everywhere, so you literally had a physical fear of the game.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/5259

Bonkers is truly one of the most fun board games ever, seriously, it's awesome.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1943

The Magnificent Race was really madcap crazy fun, it was totally awesome too.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2256

The Mad Magazine Game was pretty cool and amusing, but could be a bit embarassing, like when you had to sit on your hands and cluck like a chicken. So depends on the crowd....
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1604

Tilt was kinda cool at first, but could get boring and repetitive.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/21424

Battling Tops isn't exactly a board game, but it's FUCKING AWESOME!! Screw the pegged points, I just wound up the tops and betted on which one would win. Totally teaches kids to gamble and get adrenaline highs early.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4934

Recently discovered, The A-Team is totally awesome. You have to race to the middle and steal a file, then race back to the beginning. But the other player can steal the file, and all your hard work will be gone, but then you can steal it back. It's fast and is suprising. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3018
The Dukes of Hazzard is pretty fun too. Lotsa shenanigans.
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/2925

For thinking games, I liked Score Four alot, but nobody else would play it with me. http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/3656
And Chinese Checkers and Triominos were always cool http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/4040.
The game I played ritually with my Grandma was Upwords (like Scrabble, stacked up)
http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/1515, or Rummikub (that game PWN'D!!! kinda like a numbers scrabble sorta) http://www.boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/25196.
For card games, I was rabid about UNO.

I actually have a bunch of vintage Movie/TV boardgames I bought later that I've never been able to play yet. I betcha Knight Rider is awesome.

For worst game (but not a board game) is Charades. I FUCKING HATE THAT GAME like life itself. BAH!

'kay I'm done. guilty Wink

Trouble is one of the most annoying, unfun games out there.
Mousetrap? I don't think I've ever played Mousetrap in my household. Don't get me wrong, we owned it. But it only consisted of us setting up the board and triggering the trap. "Game over." Wink

I'm on the fence about Monopoly. My family, and I, have had so many different variations. I had Star Wars, 100th Anniversary Edition (or something), and a couple of other themes. They were all taken. I own none now. They can be fun, but, of course, they can take a century to complete. Usually ends with the last two people and someone just quitting. Heh.

I love Risk. I've got like three versions. One of my favorites is Clone Wars Risk, because it's got a cool set up. The longer you play, the more chance of reaching Order 66. If that happens and you've got the clone army, you can lose up to half of your army! So the goal is to win as fast as possible as the clones and just wait it out at the Droids. It's sweet.

Yeah, I'm a friggen nerd. Anyway, if anyone is in the Milwaukee area and wants to throw down some board game action I'm up for it. All my friends live to the north or in other states. Lame asses.

My friend Goatt has this BITCHIN' X-Men board game. The game itself is pretty pimp, but there's this entire subset of special rules you can find that someone came up with that makes it even crazier.

And this is forever Miss Scarlet in my mind.. meow.

I'm thinking of buying another to replace it since mine is in shambles from being used so much.

That and Monopoly were easily the most played games in our house for family game night. I was always Colonel Mustard.

I think I would have been all over that in my younger years.

Oh, and I have to mention it - Pretty Pretty Princess.

I always got my grandpa to play with me. Laughing

I probably do, maybe even video.

Oh man, I have very vivid memories playing this game that had a motorized shark head that went in a circle around the board and you had to move your fish according to what you rolled and try not to get eaten.. I'm going to have to go search around for that. I always got scared the shark would eat my fishy so I'd grab it off the board before it could. tongue

Hungry Hungry Hippos was another favorite.
