Okay now it finally seems like Powers is back and supposedly on a regular schedule. I bet it stays that way for the next 6 months as Bendis has said they've got the first 5 issues or so in the bag but let's see what happens after that.

Anyway, I'm happy it's back. Any other Powers fans out there? Seriously, if you like Bendis's mainstream Marvel stuff I always think that pales in comparison to his and Oeming's Powers.

Issue #1 gets things off to a good start with a new murder case, flashbacks to Walker's time with a 1950s/60s superhero rat pack in Las Vegas (this stuff is great) and a partner he doesn't appear to trust.

Everyone owes it to him/herself to buy one issue just for the greatest letters page in comics.

So true. And it's not just Bendis's responses, the letters themselves can be hilarious.

I read the 'Forever' trade and the Icon series up to after Christian got involved with the extraterrestrial stuff (when I dropped my pull list). I want to check the new series (and the Encyclopedia).

The storylines following that were pretty good but unfortunately disrupted by huge delays so as the trades come out that would definitely be a good way to catch up. I thought the new first issue was pretty good and is setting up an interesting storyline. As someone who only started getting into this series about a dozen issues ago (and haven't had a chance to get trades yet) I found the encyclopedia really useful.

Well #2 was more excellent work. Hints at more of Walker's past including crazy WWII action and the flow on to his 50s super hero rat pack. I don't think it's going to be too long before his new partner figures out there's a lot more to him than meets the eye.

Great cover by Oeming also.

I don't think too many people are reading this but I have to say #3 was fantastic. It really showed that Bendis can do pretty good action when he sets his mind to it.

Just a shame that even after promises to the contrary this has been running so late again.

I've been liking this, but there's something about it that makes me feel that it's taking too long to tell the story that it's trying to tell.

I don't really feel that way about the story - it's only issue #3 - but perhaps it's how bloody long it took for this issue to come out that's making you feel that way? Supposedly the next issue is out in less than a month but I'll believe it when I see it.

^^^ That very well could be, but it also felt that not a lot really happened in this issue.

Picked up no1 and 3 at ECC (the guy who I bought it from--Oeming--didn't have 2). Can't wait to read it.

Issue 4 was a huge improvement over issue 3, in my opinion. The layouts of this book just blow me away. Also the letters page was awesome.

I didn't really mind issue #3, it was an issue long action sequence which I thought was pretty good but issue #4 was defititely very good. I always love the world and history that Bendis builds on this book and this was one of those issues. Giving us glimpses and insight into more of Walker's history and characters he's encountered in the past. He moved the story along pretty well with this one and finished with a couple of interesting surprises with Calista's connection to Erika Broglia and the fact that I suspect that is definitely going to come back to haunt her and Walker.

The issues just keep getting better. The writing on 5 was great. The amount of black that is used in the art gives it such a distinct look. OVerall I have to say that this issues was my favorite of this series yet.

Oh yeah! I thought #5 was absolutely fantastic. The best issue of this run and the best issue for a long, long time. I can't rave about this issue enough - the glimpse of the future, Walker's despair, the pregnancy, Enki's support of Walker, the return of Deena, etc. Oeming's art was just plain sensational. It just all clicked so well.

There are times when you read a comic and it really reignites everything you love about comics and this was one of those for me. Bendis on Powers is 10 times better than his mainstream Marvel work as far as I'm concerned.
