When they played Hallelujah in Watchmen, I visibly cringed.

Where in movies or TV has the soundtrack stole the spotlight or ruined the scene completely, or just made you cringe?

Bah! That scene was f---in' AWESOME!

However, let me add to this thread:

"I'm Shipping Off to Boston" by Dropkick Murphys in The Departed, but only because they used it like 4 times.

Not a movie, but I remember when they played "Boyfriend" by Avril Levigne during a love scene on Big Love...quite a strange musical choice indeed.

OK I just found out that the "Hallelujah" playing during the love scene in Watchmen is the Leonard Cohen song and not the Handel's Messiah song. That makes a little more sense at least, though they should have gone with the Jeff Buckley version...it's much sexier.

Honestly, it didn't work for me either...I thought it was one of the lowest points of the film.

Also, is "Ride of the Valkyries" the cheesiest song to use in a movie or what?

No, not at all. One of the greatest uses of music in movie history is Ride of the Valkyries in Apocalypse Now!

Plus, if you actually READ the book, you'd know about how Ride of The Valkyries is relevant to Watchmen.

Shit! If I had only read the book!

Seriously... The book is from 1985. Back then it probably hadn't been done to death yet.
