Wakanda has been conquered, its Vibranium reserves plundered. Storm faces execution in the next 48 hours. And Dr. Doom stands triumphant. It will take the combined forces of the X-Men, the Fantastic Four and the two Black Panthers to stand against him.

A war has begun that will pit the world's most relentless super-villain against a collection of the world's most powerful super heroes -- one that will span the globe, offering twists and turns and surprise players (hello, Deadpool!) that neither side will see coming.

DOOMWAR #1

Not sure how many here picked this up, but #1 really took me by surprise. I went in expecting a decent story, but wasn't really expecting to be engrossed in the story like I was. The issue does a great job of giving you the background on what's been happening with Black Panther for those of us that haven't been following the book. Essentially, there's been a coup in Wakanda by a secret extremist group of Wakandans, who also have a secret deal with none other than Doctor Doom. I loved the idea of Doom using Wakanda's Vibranium as some sort of magic amplifier...that's vintage Doom!

Then I really liked the scenes with T'Challa and his sister Shuri showing up on Utopia. You could feel the initial tension between the X-Men and T'Challa over his perceived abandoning of Storm in Wakanda. But great to see Logan, Kurt, Colossus and company joining the fight. The best part was the end with T'Challa and Shuri's aggressive first move...that was ballsy.

I might back-issue, but doesn't really grab me. Guessing that one of the Black Panthers won't make it out of this, though. I'm thinking the girl, but could be a surprise. Frees up Storm and puts her back into play with X-titles more. don't know It is Marvel. Wink

Why even launch this as Siege is taking place? Doom should be spotlighted in a huge event. Ever since JMS brought him back, he's been doing nothing but cameos.

Doom has had some pretty big moments during Dark Reign though.

And I disagree, I think this is a great way to utilize Doom right now cuz it wouldn't make sense for him to involve himself in Siege.

I just wanted to add that this issue really gives you a TON of story for your buck. Its a really thick read. Also, Scott Eaton's art is very solid.

Review of #1 is up on the main site: http://panelsonpages.com/?p=19588.

The mini shows promise, but the first issue was pretty ho-hum in my opinion.

I don't care about shoehorning him into the Siege story. I just think the character should lay low rather than be a part some B-list mini-series.

B-List mini? It's Doom making an ultimate bid for power! This was a FANTASTIC story.

It's true! I'm like, "Of course you see what I did there. I held down the Shift key." Then I realized what you meant that you thought I'd meant.

More good stuff from this story with the action picking up this issue. Doom is still making his way through the safe holding Wakanda's Vibranium stash while T'Challa, Shuri, Logan, Nightcrawler, and Colossus battle their way through the Wakandan separatists. The battle scenes were really good, those female warriors on T'Challa's side are badass. I loved the end with Doom, T'Challa, and Storm. With what happens at the end, I feel like this story has moved super fast, which makes me think there will be some nice twists and turns in the 4 issues remaining. Great art from the highly underrated Scot Eaton too.

You missed a great popcast on this. That said, the ending was gold. I wonder how Deadpool will come into all this in that I liked the whole Doom vs. T'Challa thing. Bringing in Deadpool seems like it will mess up the tone and atmosphere of the whole deal.

Oh Wade's showing up? (the other one lol) I guess that answers my question about the "twists and turns" tongue You know, with the right writer, Deadpool works surprisingly well in these more serious stories. He's not just a pretty face ya know, he's also a damn fine merc. Laughing

Another good issue with a lot of focus on Doom. I loved the revelation by the Panther god that Doom's intentions truly are pure. His tactics are heinous, but he truly believes that humanity would be better off with him as supreme ruler. DoomWorld! Also great to see geniuses like T'Challa and Reed putting their heads together...but those Panther-Doombots will be tough to beat. lol

This issue took quite a dive in quality IMO. After all that interesting set up of Doom last issue, basically nothing was followed up on. It was all just Wakandan forces fighting Doom's forces. Then T'Challa's "Hail Mary" move at the end, enlisting the services of Deadpool, just felt off. Mayberry was crafting a very solid story here the first 3 issues but things don't look good after this one. I feel like DoomWar should have been 4 or 5 issues max, I think it being 6 issues has caused the writer to add unnecessary filler. Sleep

Eh, this miniseries has descended into "not caring" territory. What started out as a very promising story has kinda just become your standard story about Doom making a grab for power. I hope the final issue expands on Doom's plan to use the enormous magical potential of Vibranium. I'm am still interested to see how far T'Challa is willing to go to stop him. Also, Deadpool was surprisingly used pretty effectively here.

Haha yeah it finished. Just more "meh". This story had a lot of promise to start but ended very by the numbers. It was decent, but nothing innovative at all. It'll be interesting to see how the end of this transfers to Black Panther becoming a defender of Hell's Kitchen...
