Discuss Ultimate books that you read recently. Since UM is so unstable, this thread could work to just lump discussion of UC Avengers, UC Spider-Man and whatever random mini comes out.

yes

Both Ultimate Comics Spider-Man and Ultimate Comics Avengers are great. Ultimate Armor Wars is okay (though I haven't read the second issue yet).

*SPOILERS*

With Ultimate Comics Spider-Man Peter and MJ are broken up, and he's now dating Gwen. He now works at a fast food restaurant because the Daily Bugle is no more. Mysterio is vying for the position of Kingpin of Crime. Also, the public now loves Spidey.

In Ultimate Comics Avengers, Captain America and Hawkeye are working for SHIELD when during a mission they encounter a neo Nazi, the Red Skull. The Red Skull reveals to Cap that he is his son. Cap got Gail pregnant in the 1940s, just before he was frozen. The government then took the child and trained him. He eventually rebelled and then cut off the face his father gave him making him the Red Skull. Cap then went rogue to go after his son. Nick Fury and SHIELD have now put together a team to get Cap back.

Ultimate Armor Wars is about Tony's tech being stolen and him dealing with it.

Awesome book. The only problem is--and I'm not so sure it's a problem--there are so many awesome splash pages that this is the quickest read of the week anytime it's released. I'm paying $1 a minute here. Regardless, it's a fun thrilling ride through a very fictional, fictional universe. Millar is one of my favorite writers as well, and it shows he's not scared to take from James Bond, Bad Boys and Transformers and mash them with Marvel to create what he finds entertaining. A lot of us find it that way too.

Good to see that a lot of you nomads migrated over from WUMB. I was scared I'd lose that community forever.

Does anyone else feel like the whole comic book reading experience was drastically worse when WUMB disappeared?

Now that this is the place to be...perhaps not so much.

well it is fun to talk about the comics in all of the review threads. they don't want me to do that here cause the PoP guys are doing something else. so we will have to wait and see what they are doing.

Well, I'm basically doing that now for you lol..but there's a review in it (no matter how crappy) so I'm not sure if they'll take it down or not...I read the "consensus" post and it never reached a consensus, as the PoP guys hate the "Wumb way" but all the Wumbers wanted basically what you've done in the past and what I did just now.....

So far it's pretty successful?

i liked what i did on WUMB cause it gave everybody a place to give an opinion on the weekly comics. i didn't think it had anything to do with WUMB for the reason why i liked it

Anywho, I'm waaaaaay behind on comics, and tonight just read the collected Ultimate X-Men arc about the Banshee drug. Jesus Christ it might be the worst story I've ever read in a comic. Just a horrible story, horrible pacing (even between panels!) and none of the characters acted like they had in ninety issues of previous continuity. Just a big pile of shit, and really, par for the course for Marvel. Okay, sorry for going back to 2007, lol you guys can talk about your new fangled comics.

Ultimate Comics Armor Wars #2

Garth Ennis may disappoint on Astonishing but his Thunderbolt-led voice comes through here. Justine Hammer may have been the weak link in the debut, but her character improves greatly as Tony's sidekick. While Fraction is going down as an all-time Iron Man fav, I can't help but love Warren Ellis' take--especially with the obnoxious boozing--on the man inside the machine. This book did a great job using something stupid (Ultimatum) and turning into a fine story. The espionage flare of the plot, the mysterious take on other metallic combatants, and the chemistry between Tony and his cohorts makes this one to squeeze. It's a surprise this year, for sure, and will no doubtly play 3rd wheel behind Avengers & Spidey in the Ultimate U, but don't sleep on this title because this mini looks to be another wonderful edition to Ellis' resume.

You know I'm positive the reason Millar is doing it that way is to make the most of Pacheco's art. He's really writing a book here to let Pacheco shine. And, man, Pacheco's art on this book is stellar!!!! It is one of the few times I think I'd pick up a book even if the story isn't that great (and let's face it there was basically no story this issue but it does seem to be working) because the art makes it worth it.

This team of Avengers is downright dangerous. Red Wasp was awesome.

This really must have been the week for great fight scenes in Marvel Comics (I chuckled at what Cap did to Hawkeye).

Yeah I really liked this too. Red Wasp and the new Black Widow are pretty badass. And the art has just been amazing!

Loved it, absolutely loved it. Bendis is the master ad dialog.

I'm finally warming up to the art. There are still a few problems, but it doesn't bother me so much anymore. Spidey moves like he should. Plus, his head isn't quite so round anymore.

I really want MJ and Peter back together.
