X-Necrosha One-Shot

With the reviews I've read this weekend, the X-Force main feature was loathed while the other 2 stories were met with open arms. I've never purchased a New Mutants or X-Men Legacy book, and I really don't plan to, so perhaps that side of me admittingly enjoyed the X-Force story more. Maybe it's just that after some of the criticism Crane's received on the artwork that he "rises" to the occasion and does a job as worthy as his creepy Ghost Rider volumes. He really captures the evil of Selene and the misty wickedness of the setting like no other artist could do. These "clay" patterns actually mesh with all the horror and shock value, as Mike Choi's pencils would be far too pretty for something as shocking.

As for the timing of this release, it's probably expected, though I don't see the fuss. Should I pick up this week's New Mutants? It's getting mixed reviews and the N.M. section of this one-shot didn't wow me too much. The other portions were just right.

Like I said in the X-Force thread, this was pretty mediocre. Nothing popped out and made me say "Wow, cool!". The X-Force part was the only really cool part of this, the New Mutants part was okay and the Legacy part was meh'.

I know there are a lot of people calling it Blackest Night rip-off and such, but I don't care. There are some similarities, but I know it was planned out far in advance and been building up for almost 3 years now and i'm excitited to see it come to fruition. I think that it is awesome to see Selene featured as the big bad for once. She is the oldest mutant on the planet, an External, and one of the most powerful. It is about time she got some respect.

I think that the New Mutants story is going to be one of the more important. I think we will finally see them deal with the entire Sam-external thing.

Me too. I wasn't impressed with those parts of the story anyway so I'll let you folks just tell me what the hell happens. I don't need to start adding 2 other books on my list. I can't imagine them doing anything more for Necrosha that Cable did fro Messiah War. And those were a waste as well.

i think it is 3 stories that just shows how it affects other charecters in other titles but you don't need to read all of the titles.

Yeah, it looks like X-Force is the go to book in this series.

After reading the New Mutants tie in issue though I'm pretty pumped for that storyline too, I think that was the first time I've even considered Cypher aka. Doug Ramsey and Bad Ass in the same book let alone the same panel, makes you wonder if that's what his powers would have evolved into eventually, plus the ending was a shocker.

Between my self and HXS we'll get all of the books for this I'm sure.

I really liked this. Selene is one psycho bitch. The scenes with Emma and her Hellions were really well done, you could feel Emma's emotions over seeing them. I'm glad that KY (heh) seem to be including Scott, Emma and others in this and not just X-Force. And the other two stories were really good too. I've never been this interested by Cypher, his characterization was awesome. Plus the 10trasmode0virus01language1was0cool10 Wink

Like I said, I've never been this interested in Doug Ramsey as a character. Wells is doing a great job of utilizing his powers (which have been the butt of jokes way too much) in cool ways. The way he can read everyone's body language and movements was awesome, and makes him a legit threat. So far so good with Necrosha related books!

(on a side note, kinda sucks that we don't have separate threads for individual issues neutral )

Bigtymin, I agree, but this isn't our home, I guess we have to respect it or leave it.

I think I'd like it more if the art was more vibrant and I knew who the hell the returning characters are, I didn't know anyone except Pyro.

Shocked

So to to me, it was like "oh look the dead coming back.... some random mutant vampire zombie... should I be excited and shocked?"

I didn't care for it. Honestly, it bored the hell out of me. I'll keep getting it, but I don't have high hopes.

I'm sorry, but I hate Crain's art. It creeps me out (yeah yeah, this story is supposed to be kinda creepy) and I think it just looks off.

I haven't read New Mutants #6 yet, but I did pick it up. I've never read any of the other issues, so I'm curious about it.

6 should be a good jumping on point. Sure, you've missed a little, but not so much that you'll be lost.

Cool. I liked Wells' work on ASM (some of the only post OMD stuff I did like) so I have a feeling I might like New Mutants.

I know the dead are back, but it was still shocking to see
Spoiler:
surprised I'm enjoying the story so far, especially the moments with Archangel, and Emma and Scott. So far Selene's motives aren't fully clear, but I gotta imagine its gonna be messed up. Plus, I loved Crain's art, its perfect for this story. So far so good.

Crains art was good in X-Force 21, but there were some pages where the lighting was too dark.

^ Yeah, I dropped this. This and the last arc didn't draw me in at all. It's okay, I don't mind having holes in my collection.

I wonder how much is this the fault of the inker and how much is Crain's art? I'm not defending him, I'm truly wondering since I have seen a picture, penciled by the same person, inked 3 different ways, all looking different as far as lighting and overall appearnace goes (I think it was in a Wizard or some magazine--pretty interesting stuff). Personally, while I do like Crain's art, I agree that some of the pictures were too dark.

I wonder if Blackest Night has any effect on this. I personally and some of my friends feel reluctant to get this title, partially due to BN and the whole, "been there done that" feel of this, despite it being a fairly different story.

That's very true. I just realized that I've never seen any of Crain's uninked/uncolored art.

What are you talking about? No one inks or colors Crain's art, it's all his.

X-Force #20-21 continued the "meh" streak for me and this storyline accompanied by Crain's art just made it worse. The one-shot was just horrible. Liked the art on the Cipher story, but that's it.

@HXWS: Can you please elaborate on the "building up for almost 3 years" part? Because I remember nothing building to this aside from everything done in X-Force since issue #1 and the death of one character that appears in this story.
