I just spent the afternoon cataloging my collection using www.comicbookdb.com, and by was that a pain in the ass! Turns out I have slightly fewer books than I had thought, but still close.

Does anyone else catalog their collection, and if so, what do you use?

I use/used the same site. There was a free program I once used that was pretty good, I can't remember the name of it. Something happened though and it wiped out my collection, I believe.

Wizard used to have a good database thing, but then it all disappeared for years.

There a re at least two good programs I used in the past:
http://www.collectorz.com/comic/
http://www.comiccollectorlive.com/

The latter is similar to Comic Book DB only that it requires a program, and I think their database is impressive.

But several years ago I dropped the software route and went for Comic Book DB. It's great, although I don't really have the time to handle my collection any longer and basically I only covered half of it by now.

Really? When I used it the service was free and IIRC there was an option to donate money, but it was mandatory. Times a'changing etc.

I tried the Collectorz trial, and it was cool, but I just didn't want to pay $50 for it..

It was a time consuming process (well, it wouldn't be for Esbat.. pfft!!!) but I'm glad I did it. Very likely to be less doubling up on comics, which I've done on a few occaisions.

I used comicpriceguide.com. There is a charge but after I inputted all 7,000+ comics and trades I have I don't want to have to do that again!! The subscription fee is worth me not having to go through that process again.

I have most of my collection cataloged on Comic Book DB.

I have plans to someday enter the rest of my books in, but I will probably have to reorganize my collection first, which is something I am not looking forward to.

I started to filer my collection adn am only puttting stuff that I plan on keeping in comicbookdb, It was something I started and now boxes of comics just sit there, all alone, untouched. I should get back to it. I really want to get rid of alot stuff that was really bad that I bought. Anyone looking for a full run of Silver Sable and the Wild Pack?

honestly it boggles my mind someone could own thousands of issues of comics and not have read most of them. I own maybe 5 comics I've never read because its got a COA and is sealed. I've been tempted to open a couple of them to read them but those holographic sticker is too pretty.

Over a year ago I planned on reorganizing my collection and had two boxes of all of my X-books unorganized. Then I moved out and found a new job, and new ventures and suddenly I'm stuck with part of my collection unorganized and the rest in lame cardboard boxes, all sitting in this dark corner of my little apartment. I really need to get back to reorganizing my collection.

I believe there are only two books in my collection that I never cared to read: DC's War of Gods #1 I got for free couple of years ago and an adaptation of The Hobbit I received from a co-worker years ago.

I agree. Nothing gets stored or logged until I read it first. It's a pain in the ass to organize everything but once it's done it makes thing easier to find and it look pretty lol

I always made a rule that I had to read everything I'd bought at a convention before I went to the same convention the next year.

It was really tough the year that I bought nearly 300 issues of the Legion of Super-heroes and Legionaires. lol!

I have all kinds of books in my collection that have never been read, and never will be read. Some things are bought simply for the collector's value of the book.

Generally, my collection is very well orginized with dividers separating titles and all that, but usually, around once a month, there's a big pile of new books that haven't been filed away until they're all read.

That's what I have now. Especially after a con.

It was several years ago and I managed to read it all over the course of a few months without reading much else. I never bought as many comics at a convention again.
