So, over in the Hottest Dude thread I mentioned that I was an actual cowboy a while back and it got me thinking. Do I currently have the strangest job in my past among the PoPulation?

I figure this is a place to compare work experience and notes, and tell the youngsters what to avoid at all cost.

So, from first to current, my jobs have included:

Resort/Ranch work
-Running the indoor archery range, then the snack bar, petting zoo, ski shop
-Wrangler/all around cowboy type (fence repair, leading trail rides, animal care, etc)

Cashier, etc at a local board game/roleplaying game store

EB Games

Best Buy
-Went from Cashier, to audio, video, computers, appliances, eventually became the supervisor of car audio.

Phone tech support for Earthlink dial up internet

Running the copy/printing center in an Office Max

Sales manager at a Sports Authority

All around IT support at the University of New Mexico

And now I do the same job at Notre Dame.

I also pushed shopping carts at a Wal Mart for about 3 weeks at one point. These were all in about the last 16 years.

I thought you were some kind of doctor, Eli. Or am I confusing you with your wife?

Because I need someone to look at my gout.

I dunno man, I was pretty drunk, for all I know I told you guys I was a race car driver.

My wife will be a Dr in a couple of years, but I doubt her expertise in medieval literature will help with the gout.

I've had nothing but run of the mill factory jobs or working in the automotive business.

I made infant coffins and Urn holders for awhile.

I was pretty loopy that night, but I think I would have remembered if you said you were a race car driver. I also thought your wife was doing something in the medical field. Maybe all of that talk of of Battletech, crying women, and gout confused me.

So umm how do you build a baby coffin with out getting all weird-ed out?

Oh, that's easy. Build a crib with solid walls, then add a lid.

As for me, I've had a few jobs in the last four years:

-- An extra on "Smith," starring Ray Liotta and Amy Smart; actually met Amy and have about six seconds of screentime, clearly visible

-- Dishwasher at Olive Garden; sucked, but I liked the camaraderie and rapport I had with the kitchen staff

-- Extra for Kevin Smith's "Zack and Miri Make a Porno;" got to meet Smith, Scott Mosier and Jeff Anderson, and Kevin again at the Pittsburgh premier; unfortunately, the scene I was in got cut from the final product, and the particular shots I was in didn't make it to the final cut of the scene

-- Customer Counter clerk at a UPS shipping center; one of the best jobs I had, as I got to sit around and read comics all day, although it was interrupted by occasional folk who wanted to ship stuff. The center is way out in the middle of nowhere, so we didn't get a lot of people, although I'm pretty sure I met Dorian Clevanger one day. Didn't realize it until after he left.

-- Sales Associate at Hot Topic; great job, with the exception of the Rock Wall. Damn teenagers kept coming in and screwing up my section. Had to re-fold the same damn Paramore shirt twenty times one day. As a result, I've come to hate the band.

-- Sales Associate at Halloween Express; again, great job, but the boss rarely showed up on time and everyone had to wait up to an hour and a half outside in 30 to 40 degree weather. Left the job the weekend before Halloween due to planned commitments: the aforementioned premier of "Zack and Miri" and raising money for charity with my old group of Ghostbusters at the Steel City Con.

-- Cashier at WalMart. Kept that job for over a year, fought for the job, dealt with assholes on a daily basis --customers AND bosses-- and was fired due to a snowstorm. Can't say I totally hated the job, though. I met a lot of interesting people and influenced a lot of shoppers with my geek knowledge and ideas for purchases and gifts. That was the best part of the job.

Now, I'm in the market and looking. I've got an interview with a film production company this week. I'm hoping I'll be selected for a part, but I have experience behind the camera as well, so if I can't get a part, maybe I can get a job on the film as a PA or gofer.

It's just like building an adult-sized coffin, only smaller.

At first you don't really think anything of it. They're made of molded plastic which you take out of the press and trim.(most of the ones I made were for still borns or infants that died within a couple of months of being born so they were really small)The bottom is one piece and the lid was seperate.
Putting the pink and blue bedding with the little pillows in them was when it really got weird but after three or four hundred of them you get used to it. I actually took one of them home (it had a slight flaw in the finish)and kept it for years. The lids are put on with a super tough sealent.

I've been a stay-at-home-mom for almost 4 years now - the pay sucks but I love my life Laughing Before that I did data entry and product assembly at a car part manufacturer; and before that I worked as a nanny and in a daycare center. I would highly recommend NOT working as a nanny, as you are basically the bottom of the totem pole. The kids were great, but the parents sucked and would actually encourage their kids to disrespect me. Needless to say I didn't stay there long.

Well, I was only 19 years old at the time and was in a rather dark period of my life. My wife was not happy at all that I brought it home (well at the time she wasn't my wife). On the up side...I did paint it purple.
