Radical Publishing announced today that it'll stop producing Nick Simmons' (son of Gene Simmons from KISS) Incarnate comic book series due to recent allegations of tracing portions of art pieces and dialogs from various Manga.

Only earlier today I read this Swipe Pile article about Simmons by Rich Johnston:

I'm surprised that no one realized what Simmons Jr. is doing, considering the growing force of Manga in recent years in America, especially when it comes to such popular books. Even I, a self-declared non Manga fan could identify some of the swipes. Best thing in this whole story, though, is the response from Radical and their quick action when t seemed that the case is about to blow up beyond the Blogosphere. Wish it would've happened earlier and before publication, but if their claim is honest perhaps they also didn't know a thing until Johnston told them.

At first I wondered if anyone would buy it but I'm sure people would. This is pretty sad and disgraceful overall. The project should be scrapped and done over with a legit artist or with legit art because the whole thing has been tainted (but that won't happen probably). And then there's this:

Laughing well I can say i've never tried looking into a hot puddle of magma and trying to see writing in it either!

Tough break though, I liked Nick on GSFJ (IS the show still running?). Also I might wanna read the series, any TPBs?

After reading all the articles I found on this and looking at the artwork he lifted from bleach this isn't really a case of plagiarism as it is a case of art swipping.

Of all the things I've seen... I've seen Rorschach drawn in a shitty anime style thanking a little girl for "teaching me how to love" and I didn't rage this hard. I saw furry versions of Captain America, Spider-Man, Deadpool, and Daredevil hinting at a gay orgy soon, and I didn't rage this hard. I saw all of the X-Men drawn as scantily clad little girls in stereotypical anime fashion, and I didn't rage this hard. I even saw DRAGONBALL THE FUCKING MOVIE AND I DIDN'T RAGE THIS HARD.

IF MY HATE COULD BE TAPPED AS A SOURCE OF FUEL, I COULD POWER ALL OF THE INDUSTRIALIZED COUNTRIES OF THE WORLD FOR THE NEXT 1000 YEARS.

That's one of the biggest "non-pologies" ever. "I'm sorry if people feel I plagiarized." That's like saying "I'm sorry that when people don't eat all day, they get hungry." Of course you plagiarized. Of course you stole. The thing I find funny is that there were two "assistant artists" credited on the book as well. What did they do? Was it as simple as "makin' copies" or were these the people that actually created whatever background illustrations that couldn't be replicated from other people's artwork? I hope Radical sticks to their guns and doesn't publish any more of this kids work.

That article had me laughing. Liked how the creator actually laughed and thought that Gene Simmons' son being a manga fan entertained him more than him being copied.
