Surprised this isn't a thread yet.
Thought I'd ask for Top 5 and current because I think music is the most fluctuating form of entertainment for an individual. Everyone has at least that one band/artist they can't let go of, but ya. Give reasons if you'd like, but on your Numero Uno band/artist, try and at least give something on that.
Again, you can change your list whenever.

5) NOFX
Here is one of those few, true-blue punk bands that has stood the test of time. From the absurd and trivial, to the social commentary and expression of the human-condition, NOFX's lyrics are catchy, memorable and always gets your mind and heart racing to an end that you know is there but can't and don't care to see.
4)Deftones
Have been listening since I was a kid. Chino can be kind of a prick, but that's only to agents, and management of places he's playing. Just how he is. His mello-metal is poetic rage. Love it.
3)Clutch
Just phenomenal. If you haven't heard Clutch...just go to youtube. Even if it isn't your thing, the vibe, the attitude rubs off on you.
2)System of a Down
Like Clutch, I don't think I've ever become a fan of a band halfway through the first song I've heard from them. Great ADD Metal that baratones out battle-crys and goes to deafeningly high-pitched Tankian's vocals. Explaining it sounds unappealing, and to many it most likely is, but it has formula to the chaos.
1)Killswitch Engage
Currently my favorite band right now. The emotion behind the lyrics is, to me, unfathomable at times. The patterned heavy riffs, mixed with great, original beats, make each song pump through your veins. The original singer was great, but Howard has this ability to keep his "screams" coherent for fans to enjoy the lyrics (unlike black/death metal bands.) Plus, he can go melodic and make it sound fantastic in a metal song. Killswitch Engage is a group of wunderkinds.
