Artifacts (Top Cow)

I've never read any of the Top Cow universe books before so I decided to check it out and the Artifacts maxi series seemed like a good point to start.

I picked up the Artifacts #0 free issue at the same time and found that really helpful.

Overall I think this looks a perfect place for me to start to get a taste for the Top Cow universe and I must admit I quite like what I'm seeing. Obviously I'm not totally aware of all the characters and situations here but they've done nothing to alienate me and, on top of that, are doing plenty to welcome new readers with origin pieces, etc going to happen each issue.

Anyway, really liked the first issue - the whole premise seems more like fantasy to me than standard superhero fare and I like that difference. Can't say too much more about the plot as it's only getting started except to say that it's certainly got me intrigued.

The art was great. Broussard's work reminds me a bit of Leinil Francis Yu's. It's really nice work.

Artifacts #2

This took its time coming out and I think that hurts the momentum of any "event". I quite like Broussard's art - it's still reminding me a lot of Yu which is not a bad thing. Not knowing any of these characters it's still a bit of a learning experience for me but I feel Ron Marz is introducing everyone in such a way as to not alienate new readers so that's quite well done. I'd say so far I'm interested without being blown away.

I'd been hesitant to enter the Top Cow universe, but Artifacts has been an awesome way to do so. The storytelling is spot on, expertly crafted, and very welcoming/forgiving to new readers. The art is considerably less cheesecake than the art that has given Top Cow its t&a reputation. Sadly, I think some readers have that previous reputation in their heads and aren't bothering to pick up newer Top Cow titles, and are really missing out on some great sequential story telling.

I am loving Artifacts, all the call backs to universe comics, makes me so happy. I wish that series ran longer! I am hoping with this arc they explain more about "The Conductor", there has been some speculation, that he is God. I think that would be a cool twist.

Right? I really think this is going to be epic. Ron is really showing other writers how it should be done. Not just with Artifacts, but Witchblade and Velocity. The whole Top Cow Universe is just great.

Yeah Ron really had is going on, I love what he has been doing with Witchblade over the last couple years, I LOVEd Firstborn, I think that is still my favorite arc, but Artifacts is giving it a run for the money and we are only 2 issues in.

I totally agree. I really loved the "loophole" he created/found for Firstborn.

Im so hooked on Top Cow it is not even funny.

Top Cow has always been my favorite company, I just love how all their stories interlink.

I really find this book to be a good read so far. Im not much of a top cow guy myself normally but i have to say this is a very well done series.

Question: how many issues are out? Top Cow has posted that the vol 1. TPB is going to be out in December. No way I missed that many issues. anyone one have any info on this.

Only 2 issues have been published. They're now running very late and I'd say there's no way the vol. 1 TPB can come out in December. This is very unfortunate if they're trying to get buy-in from new readers because I think they'll lose them with these delays.

yeah thats what I thought and was shocked to see the advertisement on the back of the Witchblade that came out on Wednesday
