I Hear Voices

When reading characters, who do you hear? Actors? Someone you know?

Like most will put Mark Hamill's voice for The Joker. Maybe even Ledger nowadays, depending on the story. Thought of his voice during Morrison's run.

Batman...don't really need to list who most of us hear, do I?

I'll throw out three personal favorites of mine. Can't not hear Ron Perlman's and Selma Blair's voice when reading Hellboy and Liz's dialogue now.

Lobo. The guy from Everybody Loves Raymond. Forget his name, but he's the big brother. Been a bunch of stuff. (Too lazy to find his name.) I've always heard his voice as The Main Man thanks to DCAU's casting.

Brad Garrett! That's it.


But yea, with all the feature films to these animated shows/movies, to people who may inspire some sort of a connection to the characters you read--who do you hear?

When I read Spider-Man I still hear the voice from the 90's animated series. I've also started reading Hal Jordan as Ryan Reynolds and it fits perfectly.

^ Never thought about it, but yea. *looks up* Christopher Daniel Barnes. Totally hear his voice.

One I forgot, Clancy Brown as Lex Luthor. And Christopher Reeve as Superman.

Wesley Snipes as Blade left his mark in my head.

i normally go with the voice actors that have played them before

I usually hear voices I came up with, but most of them (at least the more notable characters) are either close or affected by their voice actors. Spider-Man/Peter Parker will always be the almost whiny (in a good way, if that's possible) nerd voice from the '90s cartoon. Lex Luthor is Clancy Brown. Wolverine has a grumpy, groaning tone. Tony Stark to me has more of a bass than RDJ's voice. Steve Rogers, Superman and Cyclops all have kind of the similar tone/voice, a strong, assuring leader with authority. It sometimes borders on self-righteousness.

^Yeah, I hear the voices I made up quite often too. It usually switches between the voices I came up with and the ones I listed earlier. It depends on my mood, and the type of story. Though, there are a few characters where I always hear the voices they had in certain animated projects as listed above (always hear Andre Ware as Ultimate Fury and Michael Ironside as Darkseid).
