Firefly is coming back....sort of

Science Channel will be airing Firefly in it's entirety starting on March 6th at 8 pm (though the article didn't specify time zone)

It is cool what he had to say about it though

I don't get why people are getting so overexcited about this, about a month ago Oxygen showed the entire series in a week, 3-4 episodes per night.

Every article about this tries to make it sound like they are making new episodes to click farm.

I didn't know about the Oxygen airing, but I probably would have posted about that as well.

I have no illusions about the status of this show, but reruns and syndication are awesome. If Sci-Fi started airing Farscape episodes again, you can bet your ass I'd be making time every week to watch them despite owning the series. Same goes for Firefly. Hell, I own all of Futurama, but I still watch it on Comedy Central.

I'm looking forward to 13 weeks of syndicated space cowboys on the Science channel.

Family Guy?

Family guy was a totally differnt situation. Firefly's cast has moved on and even Whedon has pretty much said it will be just comics for the crew of the Serenity from here on out.

But seriously, there are a number of factors that go into shows like Family Guy and Futurama being revived.

1.) They were both brought back just two or three years after their cancellations. Not a decade.
2.) They're animated, which makes producing new episodes far simpler than reviving a live-action t.v. show.
3.) Neither of those had theatrical movie releases that bombed.

I was more referencing the fact that reruns can, in fact, resurrect television serials.

I wasn't saying reruns, or DVD sales, can't resurrect telvision shows. I was saying that they can't resurrect Firefly.

Firefly would have worked if it was on a different network with a better time-slot, was a different genre, possibly with different writers using different actors. A different title would help, also.

I have the entire series on DVD and watch them every now and again. I also have the special edition version of the movie. It's got two discs. It's been awhile since I've seen it but I do enjoy it as well.

At least they did Firefly.

Anyone watch Dead Like Me? Another great show that got canceled too soon IMO.
But, the movie they did was a complete piece o crap.

I still think Firefly can pull off a Family Guy come back!

For me personally, it's not a big deal that reruns will air. I've seen every episode and I own the whole series on DVD. However, I do like the idea that it will be back on TV where people who have never seen the show can experience it.
