"Where has Lobo been lately? The last time I recall seeing him was during 52. On the other hand, I do think it's good we haven't seen too much of him. While I've always enjoyed Lobo's antics, it can get old if seen too much. I get that he's such a badass but sometimes he just comes across as a novelty. That shouldn't be what the character is about.

DC announced yesterday that come November, we will be treated with a two-issue prestige format series. It will be written by Anthrax guitarist Scott Ian and drawn by Sam Kieth. We are being promised Lobo at his best (or worst?). Let's hope he does return to the bad, evil character he should be. Lobo should not be watered or toned down.

What's your take on Lobo? Is too cliche? Do you enjoy his character? Do you agree that he can take on pretty much anyone? Are you going to pick up this series?"

I'm very curious about this series. Sam Keith is a no-brainer, but I have no idea what to think about Scott Ian on the writing duties.

That's what I was thinking. But it seems DC has taken a liking to writers with rocker relation lately. Like with Jesse Blaze Snider and his book Dead Romeo. I've heard good things on it, but didn't care to pick it up.

The tv series cut off at where the 12th issue. That's when Julie leaves. The show is fun and surreal, but it can be much more appreciated with the comics exposure.

The entire series, including Darker Image #1 (Maxx and Julie's first appearance) and Friends of Maxx #1-4, are all collected into 6 tpbs if you're interested. It is a really worthwhile series. I always promote by saying that comic-fans are honestly missing out if they haven't read it. If you do or don't like the superhero stuff? The Maxx. It isn't actually this true-blue hero book. It's disguised as one.

I wish Marvel and DC would get their shit together so we could have a monthly Lobo the Duck. I would buy that shit.

Just read both issues back to back and I wanna start off by saying: "Expensive!" Very costly for something so linear. The books are thick, about as thick as 4 issues, both combined, but the linear writing, which is common place with most Lobo books was just baffling for it to cost that. I mean, if it was a four-issue mini that was $3 a pop, it'd have been cheaper.

Loosely another con, for those who aren't use to classic Main Man reading, was the continuity. Which, like Giffen's other characters of the DCU (Ambush Bug...'Mazing Man), it comes off as very loose-canon. I mean, last time we saw Lobo, or was it his soul...did they ever explain that? Anyways, he goes to Hell to kill the devil and the writer, Ian Scott, let's the silly humor go to town. Modest twist that really isn't a twist at the end closes the story.

The book had some fun moments. Giffen went really old-school, which is when it slightly had a Kieth Giffen look to it. Or vice-versa. But I just wasn't feeling it too much. Again, the page count for both books combined was roughly 80 pages, and I finished both of them in about the same time it takes me for a comicbook with regular amount of dialogue and narrative. Would I recommend this? Probably not. Even if you're a Lobo fan, I'd say wait for the back-issues to decrease significantly, which they will within a year. Overall: 1.5/5. I was greatly disappointed. Course, Ian Scott...his heart was in the right place for the character, it just didn't work out. It was like he was entertaining himself, and thinking less of the readers.
