Looks like it's mostly a list of independent comic books and a few acclaimed mainstream works.

I don't think there's such thing as "too much independent". Mainstream/superhero comics are mediocre by default and either stay there, fall under the bar (usually) or prove themselves better (rarely).

Over the web there's some kind of criticism growing against that list. Sean Collins had a post on Robot 6 the other day, analyzing the choices (that's subjective, though) but most of all talking about how that list lacked any Manga. The last one was mentioned in other places too. Problem is, people fails to realize that all these kind of lists are subjective and can never be judged appropriately.

AVClub's always been pretty indie-centric when it comes to comics, but some of their choices were pretty spot on IMHO. I agree wholeheartedly with Blankets, Box Office Poison, Y The Last Man, Daredevil, and The Goon. I would have included Demo and Ex Machina too, though.

And this has been a fantastic decade for indies, as well.

This seems like trite indie-hipster crap. There's no way that the 20 indie books no one has heard of would be could be "the best of the decade". C'mon boys, give those jeans back to your sister and grow a set.

Sadly I've only read Y the Last Man and Black Hole (Both must-reads), but ya, despite this being selfishly a personally opinionated list by AV, I want to read a good few of those.

I think calling the list out because you don't believe some choices are rrecognizable by the general comic readers public, is kinda pointless. Those kind of lists are always subjective and therefor not everyone will be happy with the choice, and no one expects them to be happy with the results. The writer thinks a book read by 5 people only is the best piece of fiction ever? So be it. It's the writer's personal taste.

I've read just about every book on here and it's hardly "trite indie-hipster crap"., and I'm definitely not a hipster. You should try some of them out. There are some really good books on this list(Blankets and The Goon are my favorites on this list).

I would have included A Drifting Life and planetry
