My parents are celebrating their 35th Anniversary today. Amazing.

How many notches do our resident married couples have on your belts? Even divorcées--how long did you last?

They're surprisingly happy, it seems. Out of my both sets of grandparents, all their kids, with the exception of one aunt, my mom and dad have stayed together through thick and thin.

Another question for the married couples. Have any secrets? Or is it still too early to know what you might be doing wrong or right?

The wife and I celebrated our fifth anniversary in July. It's been a blur...

And as far as keeping secrets...BAD IDEA!

I think the big thing is don't assume that once you get married everything has to change...he can't hang out with his friends or watch his favorite shows just because now you are married. I have seen a lot of couples do that and they just end up miserable.

The trick is to communicate and to always take time out, not only for each other, but for yourselves. Having kids makes both very difficult, but they need to be done, regardless.

I WAS married for 8 years total. The last 2 years we were separated.
Just didn't work. We grew in different directions. Now I'm with someone who really gets me.
Applause to anyone who is married and is making it work. It is tough.

8 years last month.

The secret to it lasting: Change everything...I stopped hanging out with my friends, listening to my favorite music, and watching my favorite TV shows. We rarely talk...and we couldn't be any happier.

Before I got married a friend who is married told me that marrage is a second job. He is right. It takes a lot of effort to make it work and even then there are no guarntees.

The best advice I ever got about being married is that when you argue, never ever bring up stuff from the past....NEVER! If you can do that then the rest is easy.

Logical answers...except for maybe Mo's. Or is he right? Wink Heh.

Had no idea so many were married on here. Communicate and don't take it for granted is the gist of what I got out of the answers as a whole.

^^^ for the most part ya...don't try and change the person and don't assume that once your married it fixes any problems you may already had.

If you're dating and having problems, marriage will fix that. If you're married and having problems, having kids will fix that.

Don't forget that having casual sex and getting pregnant will teach you to love the other person!

Me and the wife have been married for 11 years, we're thinking about renewing our vows on our 15th anniversary.
