And if so, how many modern kids would this guy wind up visiting? Cuz let's face it today's kids are a bit...spoiled.

Krampus is a mythical creature who accompanies Saint Nicholas in various regions of the world during the Christmas season. The word Krampus originates from the Old High German word for claw (Krampen). In the Alpine regions, Krampus is represented by an incubus-like creature. While Saint Nicholas gives gifts to good children, the Krampus warns and punishes bad children.

Now I'll never get any sleep. Mad

That said, his similarities to the oft regarded appearance of Satan, is interesting (who would of thought falling would mess up someone that much. Oye). Another interesting thng is his remarkable similarity to Pan along with West African demons, save the former was playful (except when rebuffed by women and those lonely hours (prone to harsh screams) and the latter red).

Yeah, the similarities you mention are pretty evident. There's a lot of sub text in the way he's represented.

Here's the deal: Lucifer was NOT a misshapen demon. He was allegedly the most beautiful and well-loved of the arch-angels. (He was the Angel of Music; the Morning Star.) His only real sin was to be jealous of the Creator's prized creations, humans. He coveted the adoration and power that God received from those creatures, and we all know that coveting is one of the Big Ten no-nos. His most well-known appearance comes from...men. Specifically church men, who were trying to convert heathens. So, the epitome of all evil took on the form of many, many 'heathen' gods.

But nowhere in the Bible does it mention a literal depiction of the Devil in that form. It's a common misconception, just like the assumption that Satan was the driving force behind the Fall of Man from the Garden (it never mentions him in that context, only the serpent) or that he was cast out of heaven before time began.

I like to think once he fell, Satan's inner nature changed his outer appearance.

Oh, I'm well aware of that, hence the "oft regarded" part. I just found it interesting that people think this. It's much like how people think upside crosses are evil when in fact, it is part of the bible and was done as a sign of respect to Jesus and such (even the Vatican has it as a sign, but I digress).

^ Ya. If the body of Christ is on it, or a crucifiction of anyone, it is viewed as a satanic ritual. Not, it can be construed as St. Peter's cross, if I'm remembering correctly. It's like pentagrams being misunderstood. It's just a symbol of power, putting a sacrifice in the middle is the bad magic-mojo type of ritual. Like a goat head or some shit.

*****************
Satan is, depending, viewed as a different being than Lucifer. Satan as the fallen angel of wrath. His wings torn from his back during the war of the angels, and his skin turned crimson from the angels blood, and his own, that his rage wrought. Lucifer is the fallen angel of pride. In Judaism, Lucifer, the Light Bringer, actually loved god too much, and that was his pride. He exiled himself, of sorts, and all those who sin, who show they care not for the greatest gift in creation, god's love, he'll make pay and understand what it means.

(Sorry, love taling about this stuff.)

The stereotypical devil probably came from Moloch, Pan--like McNasty mentioned--and misc. creatures of lore because Christianity is one of the most symbiotic religions in recorded history. Backbone is Judaism, and later will throw in elements of Islam, because of history. Uh...Norse, Greek/Roman, Egyptology, and many pagan-like beliefs: Gypsyism, Celtic, Hispania's folklore... Interesting stuff.

Okay, I'm back to the main question. I honestly think Krampus would have his work cut out for him. Didn't know he was an Incubus. That's a demon who rapes women. Good pick, Santa...that's what kids need nowadays as punishement. ...anyways, I honestly think if Krampus all of the sudden existed this year, he wouldn't waste his time with the spoiled kids. I could see him taking a dump in their stocking. That'd be efficient. But ya, go take the really bad people away when they're naughty. Like Kim Jong Il's son.

^ No problem.

Hey, does anybody know the full story of Krampus. Like, where'd he come from and where does he take the children?

The loose bits I know about him makes him seem, to me, like the Pied Piper.

Very cool, RIV. Thanks for that. Seems McNasty was right about Krampus being more correlative to Pan than anyone else. Pan was a forest elemental. Feared by some (Certain depictions have him as a beast that would ravage women, which would explain the Incubus title of Krampus, as well.), but always respected because of his demigod status.

It's neat to think that people are, ironically, going back towards pagan beliefs to celebrate Christmas with these festivals to avoid the commercialism.

Ooo, is that an episode of Supernatural or a movie? If it is the previous, what season? (Please let it be one in the first 3 seasons. *crosses fingers*)

^ Laughing Colbert rocks!

If you're dressed as a demon, specifically Krampus, you have to chase and scare cute girls. It's pretty much a rule.

The last guy in the video below looks really good. Like, too good. Krampus...real? Shocked Laughing

The lyrics for "Santa Claus is coming to town" seem alot more sinister now...

He sees you when your sleeping,
He knows where your awake,
He knows if you've been bad or good,
So be good, goodness sake!
O!
Your watch out,
you better not cry,
You beeter not pout,
Cos Im tellin' you why
Kraaampus is coming to town,
Bllaaack pete is coming to town,
Oh yeah!
Whiiiip Father is coming to town,
Santa claus is coming to town.

Wait...are Black Peter, Krampus, and The Whipping Father the same being? Because there are tons of depictions of each one mixing with the other. Literally black, demonic, and carries a whip is pretty common. I guess those are his different names? Like Kris Kringle, St. Nicholas, Father Christmas, Santa no Ojison (Uncle Santa), etc.?

*sigh* Do they have to feed the stereotype by having so many Santas?
