Holy shit: http://google.com/gwt/n?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbit.ly%2F8Y8ItG

It's been a long time coming, and the writing was on the wall, but it's still sad to hear that as of today, Miramax is officially closed for business.

The news comes to us from The Wrap, which informs us that the end of Miramax will leave 80 people without work and six movies, that had been awaiting distribution, on the shelves.

I am stunned.

This is out of nowhere for me. There's not to many studios that I actually noticed and liked a studio for a lot of its movies. This is crazy.

I thought they had already closed along time ago, but I guess it was their distribution arm had closed. Since the last 6 or so films they released had been distributed through MGM. I just hope the Weinsteins will get those last 6 films out. There is no sense in having them rot in a vault somewhere when they could be put out by somebody else.

Yeah right the Weinsteins will buy those six movies just to keep em on a shelf, cause A. they're a couple of assholes, and B. they're a couple of assholes with an axe to grind.

^ Miramax hasn't been making near the amount of $$$ they were before the Weinsteins left. A few months ago they announced they were cutting back the number of films they were releasing...I figured it was only a matter of time. Still kinda surprised that no one tried to buy them from Disney...or maybe they did, but Disney was asking too much. don't know

Because their money troubles have been well documented for the last few years.

I'm with you, BlueMaxx. This was the first I'd ever heard of Miramax having problems.

That's a real shame. I remember when Orion went bankrupt in the early 90's, right after they had back to back Best Picture wins with Dances With Wolves and The Silence of the Lambs. Ironically, it was around that time when Miramax started to get big.
