Stan Lee and Jack Kirby prove that even they could do wrong.

Yes, they're the ones who established the Marvel Universe back in the '60s and all, but can you imagine a modern writer doing such a plot without becoming a joke?

My favorite part is Cap's opening sentence in his letter. Oh, Steve Rogers, you're so modest...

Older comics are always a blast to read! This is why I generally don't get too miffed by out of character stuff, even the original creators did it. I don't think some readers these days realize how corny and out there a lot of the stories were back then.

I know.

On a similar note, recently Chris Sims had a comment on Marvel's upcoming "Heroic Age", a supposed "return to the good ol' shiny and bright days" of the Marvel Universe.

Oh poor Cap. Laughing

I think the intent behind this story was to show how Cap doesn't really know what to do with himself in this modern age, so he just wants to get back into something familiar. But of course, hilarity ensues because its the Silver Age.

In Magneto's first appearance he used his powers to hypnotize people with his magnetic personality. Stan Lee gets no free ride.

One issue of Thor had him swinging from a lightpost after Odin told him he could marry Jane Foster. The way they had characters act back then always cracked me up!

I'll take whacky innocence over rape, buttshots, softcore fanwank fantasies and affirmative action avengers every time.

Ultimate Fantastic Four #1 had a scene that showed reed a teenager (the scene probably took place around the 80s) and he was wearing a 50 cent shirt.

either he had a time machine and likes hardcore rap or...not.

UFF takes place in the 2000's. Reed is supposed to be in his late teens or early 20's. The 50 Cent shirt makes sense.

If he was really smart, he'd listen to underground hip hop Wink The shirt is just trying to modernize the scenery. I'd have him wear a Big L shirt or something cool
