Avast and AVG are pretty good, but you need to download both of them.

Huh... you can't use an anti-virus without it being installed on your computer.

I use Eset, but it costs money and my copy is... a gift. unsure

Check with your internet provider first, most of them have either norton or mcafee as part of their service. You will have to download, there is no other way to get anti virus protection.

Avira is one of the best free anti-virus programs, better than AVG. You could do a free virus scan with Panda though. Just google Panda Antivirus Scan.

Adaware and Spybot are two I used to use at work (hospital IT department) Both are free to download (and as Tomer pointed out, you really can't scan your system without the software being on your system)

Spybot Search & Destroy

Just be careful and don't get two antivirus programs at once. I did that by accident and my computer completely locked up.

I went with iAntivirus I do not know if it makes a difference but it is for a MAC. I tried some of the ones you suggested but it did not install on it

Yeah, those aren't for Mac's. I have a Macbook myself and the only thing I use is Macscan. Never heard of iAntiVirus. How is it?

Those are not anti-virus software. They are spyware and adware removal programs.

I thought the whole thing about a mac was that there were no viruses for it. Why would you need anti-virus. software

Mac's do get viruses sometimes. There's still a number of them that could infect the Mac, but most viruses are designed to attack Windows run stuff.
