Yep, during last night's round of nasty storms, Touchdown/Big Butter/No Pack Jesus was struck by lightning and burned down to the ground. This thing sits about halfway between my house and Super-Fly Comics and Games. What gets me is that this statue is located next door to a HUGE flea market and across the road from a massive porn superstore, and yes THIS is what gets struck by lightning and burns to the ground. Thou hast been smited!

I think this would have had more impact if it were in the bible.

"Jesus, God's only son, died on the cross for your sins" - meh.

"Jesus, God's only son, died when his father smote him down with lightning and immolated him in a giant fireball of retribution because of your sins" - DAMN!

Some people think this song is funny. I only think it's relevant.

Man, I heard about this this morning, and part of me is sad.


The other part thinks that if theres a God, he isn't happy with churches spending a million dollars on the biggest baddest church and lawn decorations anyways, since you know, that money could be speant helping people.

Also, I always called him zombie Jesus, cause when he was first built, and there wasn't water, he was just coming out of the dirt. The water kind of ruined the effect tho.

I like to think of Jesus wearing a tuxedo t-shirt. It says yeah I'm here being kinda formal, but then I'm ready to party. I like to party, so I like my Jesus to party.

He was never that big on graven images.

I've always wondered how long it would take for this thing to burn to ashes. Apparently God has a backlog of graven images he had to smite first.

I'm sorry, that church makes me mad. One of Andy's friend's is a pastor, when he was doing his "clincals" for his license (or whatever it is) he wanted to go there to see how things at such a large church went. He says they require you to submit your credit card information before you're allowed to attend. If you don't pass their credit check you can't be a member there, they bill your tithe to your credit card, instead of passing the plate. It's a requirement.

I'm not a particularly religious person but when they tell me it's gonna take a quarter of a million dollars to rebuild the thing it makes me angry. In a community where so many people are suffering, where so many people are unemployed, and losing their homes....

Well, that's...disturbing. But, I guess they've got a point. Jesus loved it when people would worry about money while in the temple. CHanging it, making it, whatever...he LOVED it.

Oh, wait. NO HE DIDN'T. "It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God." So looking for the rich or well-off doesn't make them a good church. AT ALL.

Just because there are asinine and corrupt churches doesn't mean there aren't good ones worth attending.
