COLUMBIA, Tenn. -- A college student is dressing up like a superhero to fight crime in Columbia.

The 20-year-old man, who wants to remain anonymous, but calls himself the Viper, recently caught the attention of police in Columbia.

Officers stopped the man just after midnight Wednesday when they spotted him in this costume.

According to the Columbia Daily Herald, he told police that he was looking for crime to report.

The self-professed comic book nerd was armed with a screw driver, wrenches and a cell phone, all of which were stored in a utility belt.

Police urged the Viper to stop his patrols and told him that he was violating a city ordinance, which bans people wearing masks in public.

He told the Columbia Daily Herald that, "I am just a guy trying to do what's right, in tights." On Monday, the Viper told Channel 4 News by phone that it's a matter of pride protecting his hometown.

The crime-fighting college student said he eventually hopes to become a comic book artist when he is done with school.

in local columbia news tonight, self acclaimed superhero was gundown in a restaurant by local gang members. without any real protective armor or super powers - the man died instantly. He didnt catch any crime during his stint as a superhero

I was reading an article in Rolling Stone a couple of months ago about real life super heroes. I'm suprised how many of them there actually are.

They should all join a League or something..

These "vigilantes" have been around before even the Kick-Ass comic. Probably inspired Millar, not that he'd admit it.

I forget the name of the site, but there's like a "league" of people across the country. Can't remember what it is--it's in the Kick-Ass thread somewhere, just too lazy to find it.

Indianapolis has superheroes. There's more than one, don't know if they're still active though. I suppose we could stage somebody stealing my purse and see who shows up, lol.

Where's Astro?! Our plan of becoming supervillains to these guys has to go through one of these days. I think Deadbolt and/or FroZen was up for it as well.

We need to find these heroes' weaknesses and use them against them. Like poking out The Eye's eye or taking an axe to Tree Song and...bullets or something for the others. :P I keed. I don't condone murder. Just taking out our foes and reveling in their defeat!

Just, if you turn on the news and see where The Viper was runover by a drunk guy in a Mustang that had Goatt-Mobile spraypainted on the side....... you guys don't know me.
