Seems like theses days if there is a popular book series they make a graphic novel out of one of the books or all the books. They have done with the Artemis fowl series, the dresden files, Daniel X, They tend to make books into graphic novels that would kinda fit the mold of lending it self to a graphic novel. It does allow to new audience to get into the books. Sometimes the books are better.

I thought Daniel X was created as a Graphic Novel. No? I think it's not that great mostly because the Graphic Novel is always going to be condensed and just not as good as the novel itself.

I don't mind it; sometimes they can really get into scenes that might be hard to film otherwise, because of the level of effect such a scene would need.

That being said, the only real reason to turn a successful novel into a graphic novel is two-headed: one, to expand the base of readers beyond the regular fans and those who'd be likely to pick it up at a bookstore and two, to storyboard it for an eventual movie or TV show.

I don't need a comic adaptation of my favorite novels; they're my favorites precisely because of the pictures in my head when I read them. I don't need or particularly want to know what Writer A and Artist B have in their head when they read the same book.

There are positive exceptions, of course (the Marvel OZ books, for instance), but for the most part, I'm okay with graphic adaptations, so long as they're not of my ab-fab favorites. tongue

I still need to read the comic version of Pride and Prejudice and Zombies.

I wonder when/if Warner Bros. will realize it's sitting on a Harry Potter comic gold mine. Of course, they could've already approached J.K. and we just don't know about it. But man, what a seller that'd be for DC.

I keep coming across the Pride and Prejudice and Zombies graphic novel. I think it's a sign, but I have too much sitting on my shelf to justify getting it right now. Laughing I've flipped through it. It looks pretty good.

I actually made the argument for Harry Potter comics the other day with some friends, most of whom have read all the books, and one is rereading them for the second time. I tried to read them, but I just didn't have the time or attention span to devote to them. But I said that if they adapted the books into a comic series, I'd totally read them.

From reading the recently released Man With a Getaway Face, adapting the book from the Parker series, it showed me that some books turn out great as comics.

I really dont see a reason to read a comic version of a book. I have not checked any of them out. Kinda like motion comics to me I just dont see the point.
