I'm now sitting down to listen to Tuesday's show and I felt compelled to weigh-in on the Jonah Hex topic, as I think I'm one of the few people on the board who both reads the comic and saw the movie.

The movie is trash. It's an offensive movie in regards to being faithful to the source material, and it's offensive to good taste. The comic book is a hard-boiled western about a disfigured Confederate deserter turned bounty hunter. The movie is a hyper-realistic, supernatural western with a horse that carries gatling guns on its shoulders. The sad part is, the worst things about the Jonah Hex movie have nothing to do with the changes to the source material, but rather the script, direction, and acting, all of which are severely lacking.

Lee asks how people don't realize they're making a shitty movie. It's quite simple really, especially when you realize that the Jonah Hex movie runs at just past 70 minutes. They leave things on the editing room floor. I'm not saying the movie would have been good had it been left in tact, but there could have been some very pivotal scenes missing from the final cut. Of course, to make it a good movie they'd also need to edit out Megan Fox and completely re-write the plot, so obviously studio edits weren't the only thing opposing Jonah Hex from being good.

Personally, I think a Jonah Hex movie should have been serialized, much like the way the Sin City movie was done. Even better would be a television show on Showtime or HBO, but that had a snowball's chance in hell even before the movie crashed and burned.

All that said, give the current Jonah Hex series written by Justin Gray and Jimmy Palmiotti a shot. It's easily one of the best comic books being written today and one of my favorite series of all time. I'd also recommend checking out the DC Showcase collection of classic Jonah Hex stories. While I'm not normally one for reading dated comics, Jonah Hex holds up surprisingly well. One of the appeals of Hex to non-Hex readers is that you can pick up almost any single issue and any TPB and enjoy the story without reading a ton of back story first.

I still don't understand why Marvel had to screw with Daredevil. Like Lee has said on numerous occasions, they took a book that has been consistently excellent for ten years and decided to fix what wasn't broken in the first place. Amazing Spider Man # 641 has a similar problem; it took something that most readers have forgiven and forgotten and just made it more confusing. Marvel's trying to change too much too fast, and all it's doing is driving me further away from their books.

In regards to the re-selling of video games, I think a court ruling that consumers can't resell software is bullshit. You're right Lee, the publisher doesn't see any money when people re-sell software, but how is that different from any other product? People sell their cars all of the time and the original manufacturer doesn't see a dime. Personally, I don't like being told by the government or by a company that once I have spent money to purchase an item I don't actually own that item, I merely own the right to use that item.

If software publishers don't want consumers buying their product second-hand, perhaps they should offer some sort of buyback program where they offer to purchase used software at a reasonable price. I'm not sure I would be completely sated as I think consumers should have the right to sell anything they own to whomever they wish, but at least that would show some compromise on the part of the publishers, rather than resorting to draconian measures to control consumers.

At the risk of repeating myself on LWIP, the issue here isn't reselling the software. The issue is that most professional software, Adobe products, AutoCAD, etc.. is sold in a very specific way. They provide you with the software and sell you a license to use it. The license is often specifically no transferable. I could sell you the photoshop CDs, but if I give you the key I am violating the agreement I made with Adobe when I purchased it.

Console games are unlikely to be affected by this, since you aren't buying a license to use the game, you are buying the media, and the licensing is through the manufacturer of the console. By owning an Xbox 360 I have the implicit license to play any software made for the system. The fact that the industry has not gone after rental companies for console games is a lot of precedent that would need to be overcome. Note also that you can't rent computer software.

And so long as it's restricted to things like OSs and professional software, I think it's a non-issue. Should it extend to console video games though, that's where the problem comes in because after video games, movies, books, and music could face a similar fate.

When I was a kid there was a rental place that did rent computer software, back in the days of diskettes. It was awesome because it was essentially like buying computer software for $4. Ah, the good ol' days.

Yeah I really don't see the benefit of making a law that prevents people from selling their console games on EBay or Amazon. If the government has the time and money to go after broke gamers after they bailed out all of those crooked banks...well, let's just say that won't go over well.

Thanks to my new school and work schedules I don't really have the time to listen to the whole PoP!-Cast live each week. I can listen to some of it, just not all of it. Anyway, I've taken to listening to them at work (as well as old ones). It's awesome. I want to thank the whole PoP!-Cast crew for making work more bearable. My coworkers think it's funny watching me listen to them. I spend a good portion of my day standing alone in a hallway breaking down boxes (it's as fun as it sounds). So, I'm standing out in the hall by myself laughing hysterically.

The bit where Lee added the extra syllable to henchmen from episode #72 was hilarious. Also, the Chris Hansen sounders from whatever episode it was (I've listened to so many in the last two days I can't even remember what one it was) were stop breathing funny.
