Return of Thomas Wayne?!?!?!?

There was that page at the beginning of the most recent Batman and Robin, then it was never explained in the story within. Can someone tell me if I missed something? Or were you guys as confused as I was?

Also did the world need to see Thomas Wayne pouring champagne on a stripper's ass?

I honestly felt myself intrigued by that more than a lot of the other crap that Morrison has been doing on his Batman tenure.
