I'm fully aware that I'm petty for posting this, but come on, that guy was an ass.

So, Wizard shows are going to be awesome now, right?

Let me say this about Spat:

He has, in the dealings that I've had with him, been a really cool guy. As a matter of fact, he made up for Wizard's lack of care for customers by actually comping me a FREE VIP pass to WWNE. I'm not sure how he treated people that weren't customers, but I haven't anything bad to say about him.

Um. Yeah. I got nothing on this one. When I did some freelance work at Wizard this past year for the Philly Convention, I met Spat face-to-face and he was really cool. Can't say anything bad about him and I hope he's got something lined up. That kind of sucks.

I hate to see anyone lose their job but...FUCK HIM!

He's a great guy and a class act. Hopefully he'll find something soon. Getting fired sucks...especially right before the holidays.

Looking at the Philly show, there are already more comic creators listed then has been actors. It is looking to be, so far, a Green Lantern strong show. Which would be smart since it is the same weekend that the movie opens.

Back to Spat, the guy was an ass. Yea it sucks to lose your job now and especially with the Holidays coming but this guy turned what we all loved into a has been autograph show. Is it possible that Wizard heard the complaints and felt that a change was needed?

To be fair it wasn't his fault that the shows are full of D-list celbs. That hand was dealt to him be Wizard and their complete incompetence.
Wizard has burn a lot bridges and fucked over a lot of people in the comic industry. That's why no one goes to the shows anymore.

That being said he was a complete asshole to me and my friends at the last show. They completely fucked up our booth that we have had for 14 years. I hope whomever they hire to replace him doesn't have his head so far up Garabs ass that he can see what needs to be done to fix the shows

All I can say is that as someone who lost his job three years ago and has had to resort to temp jobs for the past three years, I wish him nothing but the best. It's tough losing your job in this economy and whether you agree with whatever he did or not, he's still a human being and not having a job in these times is a scary thing. I speak from experience.

Seriously? Do you even know what went on at Wizard for you to be saying these things? These so called Powers That Be are asses and they're the ones that screwed everything up with their incompetence and last minute changes to accommodate their "friends" and also never bothering to honor what was promised to their guests, vendors etc. Wizard chose to join up with other companies who were known for screwing over the fans and only thinking about the almighty dollar. The turn around for the employees (who don't happen to be family) is ridiculous at Wizard. They don't care about anyone but themselves and they'll go through people until they get what they want and then throw them to the curbside.
Get the facts before you go and blame anyone who worked hard to try and make things right the best that they could while "the Brothers" walked around taking credit for all the good and specifically telling everyone else that they didn't care what was agreed upon.. if they wanted to change things last minute... they would.
The guests that were going to be there, not going to be there? The extra fees? The events that were scheduled and never happened? The fact that photo ops were all a mess and no one knew who was doing what until the very last minute? The panels that were changed around all of a sudden so you missed them? If you ran a company, would you be letting one of your underling employees make these kind of important decisions?! Get real people!
Corporate America is based on the rich getting what they can get and who gives a shit about others.. I know there are a bunch of on here that have previous dealings with the Brothers and I bet that at the very least 99.99% of your dealings were NOT good at all.
You've never had a boss that took over what you were working on and when they fucked it up... they let you make the calls, emails, follow-ups to try and straighten everything out and then disappear into the background? Then you get left with people thinking everything was your fault? Or how about getting complaints about something you KNOW you worked on and had everything perfect; then finding out later that your boss made some changes, but oops forgot to tell you about them?

Place the fault for Wizard screwing over the fans and making cons enjoyable a thing of the past where it should be.. not with the people that got used and then thrown away like rag dolls.

Matt- I wouldn't feel so bad... you're not special.. a certain Shamus Brother (*cough* Peter) has a tendency for doing this. You weren't the first and you certainly won't be the last... Hope you didn't pay for them either, cause he doesn't give a shit about that little fact either...

We all know that Wizard and the Shamus Brothers are just as responsible for the poor shows as well but like you said they use and chew people up, so they probably used Spat to use his "make up" connections to books such poor guests

Well let's just say thank god I was never a full-time...

I know that there are a lot of you on here that can sympathize.. and I'm just waiting to see what happens after the Atlanta show.. especially after the fiasco that went on during the Austin show...

The Brothers just keep proving to me that there is no end to the stupidity capable in one human brain...

PS- Hate to break it to you. but most of "those" guests were actually personal faves of the Brothers (for real...) and favors to their friends... They have no one to blame but themselves..

Yeah, I know he and Foxy had a bit of a...(wait for it)...spat, but all in all, he came in with the deck stacked against him. He was a nice scapegoat for the brothers' ineptitude, and I'm sure he was informed that the shift in Cons was his priority (hence the fact that AA was the most neglected part of WWs since).

He seemed genuinely concerned that the con-goers were getting the best he could work with. Also, even if he was an ass in general, I lament someone being the victim of the whims of a couple of douchebags who have forgotten what it's like to be a fan.

It's great that some of you had good interactions with him, and I really do mean that.

My experience with him was absolutely out of line for someone who worked there to someone who was exhibiting. He was rude to not only me but other female creators and his actions were sexist. And the infamous Saturday night at CCC 09 bordered on harassment.

So while I can sympathize with loosing your job, especially around the holidays, he did not have the right attitude for that position and I'm glad he's gone.

But its still run by the same asshole's who care more about making as much money as the can and running the cheapest con they can. as far as SPAT he's the idiot who ran a costume contest in a room so small in Chicago this year the people dressed up could not get in to sit down let alone those of us who wanted to watch, karma is a bitch.
