I just read the latest Amazing Spider-Man issue, yeah I know blasphemy, and well it was good - if not great. It FELT like an issue of Spider-Man. It had humor, it had action, it had Osborn on Parker on Jameson family verbal sparring/showdown. Hell, Kelly even made the whole "single Spidey" thing... seem almost natural without cramming the BND debacle down my throat like a prison-style porcupine deepthroat. There was no running out of webbing gags or any other ridiculousness. I forsee this "American Son" arc to be the first TPB of a non-ultimate spidey book I EVER buy.

Everything I'm gushing about isn't even hinging on the shocking ending or the twisted Norman and Harry dealings, it just feels good.

And that scares me.

I'm actually interested in Spidey's world now that Norman is in charge. It could be really interesting. I'm just having a hard time buying the book. I dropped it after New Ways to Die and never looked back. If THAT'S how they're doing Norman, I want no part of it.

You had more optimism for AMS than I did, Lee. I dropped it from my list after that 2-D/Paper girl arc. I couldn't even read those issues. Almost considered using them as toilet paper. Laughing

I jumped on at the "New Ways To Die" arc, and it was sucktacular as the writers and editors were doing Spider-Man ala the blasted parody "Superhero Movie".

But once they started circling the gag drain and running out of shit to rehash, and they finally dropped the Spider Tracer killer let down. Once Spidey was gone from his own continuity for months and came back to J. Jonah Jameson as Mayor of NYC suddenly "shit got real".

Right now we have Spidey pummeling the SHIT out of Norman, I'm talking homicide was gleaming in his big white and black eyes as he knocked Osborn through walls and wailed on his ass.

Its fuckin' GO TIME in ASM. I swear you won't regret reading at least the first issue of the American Son arc.

Part 2 steps things up quite a bit. Harry has some real balls in this issue.

I gotta feeling they want Harry to be Norman's "Bucky" as American Son.

In 590 and 591, he explains that there was a mindwipe to everyone and as soon as you see him without his mask, all the memories come back... What he did NOT explain is who did the wipe for him.

Man, Batty, I'm right there with you. American Son is GOLD! I hate to say it, I really do, but if THIS is what the new Spidey status quo nets us, then maybe it actually WAS worth it. Granted... we've had how many issues of suck between then and now? Still... this is a book I'll read every issue of, as long as the quality keeps up.
