1992: McFarlane leaves Marvel and becomes filthy rich.
2001: McFarlane declines Joe Quesada's offer to do one last Spider-Man story.
2009: McFarlane and Robert Kirkman create a new character that doesn't look at all like a combination of Spider-Man and Venom.

Well he is doin' it because Kirkman told him to actually do something new for a change. Kirkman just didn't know Todd was just going to dust off anidea from 1988.

Todd seems to only be able to create Spidey look a like characters.
Spawn was Spidey, Venom, and Ghost Rider.
This guy looks like Spidey, Venom, and Whiplash. Or maybe that Image dude with the whips.

Kirkman was the one to offer this in public, so it's completely his fault. Not to mention Joe Quesada offered the same thing, only to do a Spider-Man story and even pay him from his own pocket, but McFarlane ignored.
