Episode 18 PoP!Cast brought up an interesting case.

What do you consider a Marvel Big Event.

For me it's Civil War, World War Hulk, Secret Invasion, and Dark Reign. Why? Each event lead to another and had crossovers in the marvel books.

Avengers Disassembled I really don't call that a big marvel event, more like a WOW Moment like the Death of Captain America.

Other famous Marvel Events were Secret Wars and Infinite Wars.

To me, an event is marked by a single theme or thread weaving in and out of multiple titles.

If Dark Reign is an event, Disassembled HAS to be.

I didn't consider Dark Reign an event until just now, when I had to define what I think an event is.

I disagree Lee...Dark Reign is going on and things will go back to semi Normal when over. Disasembled is done and over with and nothing came back. Now it's Mighty, New, and Dark Reign Avengers.

Absolutely.

As I listen to last night's podcast, I feel the need to discuss Final Crisis, even though this is the Marvel forum.

First off, you guys decry events that spill into other titles. Then, Final Crisis is branded as being poorly handled because it doesn't do that. It seems like publishers are kind of damned if they do, damned if they don't.

I'm sorry Peter, I'm not following your logic on this one. Are you saying that an event is defined purely by the aftermath?

Nope, there's going to be an aftermath to everything. I'm just saying after a big event, things kinda went back to normal right? Well, what normal is in the Marvel Universe. So Avengers Dissasembled happened. You figure after that the orginal team would be back, just another chapter in their lives, but now we have all kinds of Avenger teams out there. Nothing really went back to what is was.. It's kind of like the end chapter per say.

Civil War, everything went back but the SR Act was inforced.
WWH: Hulk got his revenge on the people that sent him away.
SI: Skrulls came, defeated, done.

I LIKE events to go across titles. I don't like it when they craft mini's of already ongoing books to do it. if the planning is executed properly, a reader shouldn't have to spend any more money to get their event experience save the core event mini unless they wanted to (like event-specific minis eg. Villains United).

Very true Lee that Hawkeye is back, BUT you'll notice that the original team is not back together. It's an all new team.

What a post-event status quo in the last five years didn't last far beyond the event itself?

House of M: Mutantkind suffered great loses it still trying to recover from and every story ever since, especially the big ones been affected directly by HoM.

Civil War: The changes of forces in the MU, the Initiative, the friction that caused the creation of more than one Avengers team, "legal" and "renegade" ones - are all still here. Not mention, triggering the takeoff of Norman Osborn as a powerful mastermind, eventually resulting in him becoming the strongest persona in the MU.

Secret Invasion: Again, Norman Osborn. The mistrust created by the Skrulls has yet to be fixed, and strengthened the frictions in the MU.

World War Hulk: Revealing the secrets of Tony Stark and his partners, aiding in the mistrust his peers already had towards him.

Avengers Assembled: Like you said, changing the Avengers and practically being the opening shot in the changes the MU been through in the last five years to this day.
