Finished reading issue #5, and just when everyone was bitching about Dini's take on The Joker, twasn't him at all. Digging deep into the past by pulling a Johns/Robinson, Dini gives the fans back Gabby. Thing is, do we want him? He's kind of fun, but I don't think he can go far. Possibly the point of the character. I am loving the humor this one took.

Yeah, this book is pretty much always good, whether it's the humor in the inner monologues, the characterizations of the four main characters, I'm including Edward Nigma because he's supposed to have a bigger role in the near future, or the gorgeous art by Guillem March.

The reveal of Gabby was certainly chuckle worthy, as were his motivations for attacking the Sirens, plus it made sense that the Joker wouldn't act the way he was in these two issues.

Really love this book, I was in love when I read Selina's explanation that she gave when Ivy and Harley were questioning her about Batman's Idenity. "And don't even get me started on the Robins."

I'm enjoying this book. While most of the Bat books tend to get really dark, GCS is just fun.

When I saw the reveal I actually thought "Thank you Mr Dini for not ruining what Morrison was doing" tongue

I like this series (epsecially when it had Riddler). It's funny (needs more Riddler), entertaining (still needs more Riddler), and the art is faptastic (not enuff Riddler). I can't really think of anything wrong with it (needs more Riddler). Smile

Yup. That Edward Nigma one-shot that was "filled in" (without the slightest appearance of the GCS) was awesome. That really solidified their position on my punchlist and I'm glad issues 4 and 5 were nearly just as good. I guess you can say we've never been so happy to see that it was NOT Joker in a book, eh? And yes, this title is the light in that dark tunnel that is Gotham, so buying this just for fun stories and a good time is well worth it. Also, love seeing Bruce "Hush" Wayne in these books as well.

So I am guessing I am not the only one who would pick up a Riddler ongoing series by the same team as this?

lol! Oh ya. But you weren't the only one, Derek. The DC boards was about to give that title a hobo-in-an-alley, dumpster-pyre, for Dini's sake. 'Course, over there, some consider DC a religion. Heh.

Hush Wayne is really intriguing in all the Bat-books, but it seems Sirens and SoG especially.

You are not the only one. I'd be happy with a mini or maxi.

Well the rumor with this title is that eventually be a kind of "Eddie's Angels" type book (With allot more Riddler), just needed to get a couple of arcs out of the way to get all of the participants in the book on the same page.

^ Hrm. I've heard that too, but I'm wondering if it was just a commentary on a promo picture. I mean, the one I posted is an ominously life-sized Scarface through the new Ventriloquist, Sugar. So this could go any direction. I do love that idea...to an extent.

Issue 6: Oh, Gaggy. Liked the connection with the Graysons and how things went down between him and The Joker, and Harley.

A fun issue, and a nice revamp of a long-forgotten character. I hope we see more of Gaggy soon.

I read issues 1 and 2 and kinda forgot about this book, but I read 3-5 in one sitting and I'm starting to love it. One of the best Bat-books.

The art is great and #6 has a gorgeous Poison Ivy cover.

I really enjoyed last week's edition of GCS, this series has surprised the heck out of me. Sorry there wasn't a review, but with Thanksgiving and all it was hard to review the books.

I say pick up this series until further notice.

GCS #7

You want to drop the book because you know it's fluff; you know it really has no ultimate meaning towards the Batman universe; you know it's showcased mainly by its art and is genuinely referred to as "fun."

Yet I own all seven issues and I don't want to stop.

What Paul Dini has done is make an enjoyable book every month that doesn't get stale because it never takes itself too seriously. However, it takes itself serious enough at times to make sure this title hasn't become a mockery of Gotham. What makes the book so good is that it fleshes out these 3 fine villains-turned-heroes (methinks) so when more "important" roadblocks come across their way, we'll care. To simply have Catwoman, Ivy and Harley run around solving small jobs would simply be senseless. Dini certainly has a hand for character.

And the book always looks great. Even when Guillem takes the month off.

3.5/5 Candy Canes - Really nice holiday story thankfully missing in cheese.

Godddamn, I read issue 6 and 7 back to back and I loved it. I felt like I'm watching Batman: TAS

I hope Dini stays on this for a while. While I agree that it feels this book has no 'real' impact, as long as the characters are written in such an awesome way, I'm going to enjoy this book.

^ Same here, about the Dini comment. This is possibly the best Harley Quinn solo I've ever read (Having never read any of her title, which is so hard to find.). 4 out of 5. Harley's family was worse than her.

No mention of GSC 8 yet huh?

Well, not being all that big of a fan of Poison Ivy I found myself loving this issue despite that. This was just a fantastic character study of PI and why she reacts to the world and the other Sirens like she has been recently, which I think Andreyko nailed on the head which made this one of the most interesting takes on the character I've come across.

We also got some more Riddler involvement, which can only be a good thing in this series.

There were a few humorous moments, mostly thanks to Harley as per usual, but for the most part this was one of the more serious and darker issues of GSC and the writing and art by Andreko and March respectively really meshed well together to get the message across.

This continues to be one of those series that slides under the radar but is consistently one of the best books DC puts out, at least readership is consistent so there's no real danger of it biting the dust as of yet.
