I'm always amazed at how many people consistently misspell it and it always gets under my skin. I'd say one out of five. I get what you're saying, though. I dislike when people say 'corpse' when pronouncing 'corps'. Ugh! My brother is a big fan of Green Lantern Corps, and always says 'corpse' more often than not. I've always loved Firestar. Didn't know the comic version until these last few years, but I remember watching "Spiderman and His Amazing Friends" which included Firestar & Iceman. I especially liked the episode where it shows her discovering her powers (melting the bitchy kids' snowman), sewing her costume, & exposing that same bitchy cheerleader for stealing the cup...
This was the closest version I could find to the TV one... the mask is a little over-extended, but she still looks hot (all puns intended).

Firestar is one of a handful of characters who started out on television and was then brought into comics due to their popularity. You should (if you haven't already) look for the TPB of her origin story, which ties her into the X-Family, but not as close as she was in the TV show.
