The Most Painful NES Secret Code of All Time

My friends and I used to watch this VHS tape non-stop. It's a glorious thing. It also reminds me what a pain in the ass it was to enter NES codes. Even more painful when listening to this wormy kid go through the ENTIRE THING.

I'm trying to think of some of the codes I hated the most, but had to do. I think there's a Continue code for Mario I could never pull off, as well as one for Adventure Island. Sometimes kids would lie to you and you would spend a half hour trying to put in a code somebody would swear works. A kid at my school told us if you hop up and down in one spot in Super Mario 2 for a certain amount of time, something would happen. I hope that guy dies in a fire.

Or the goddamned Zero mistaken for O codes where I would have to start completely over.

LMFAO... ahhh that reminds me of the sad endings to my Saturday mornings watching JD Roth talk about video games I couldn't possibly afford.

Yeah, I remember Metal Gear had like, a 30-character password (or some shit like that). I used to hate fucking that up.

I don't think there's anything more jarring than the 8-Bit "EHHHH!" sound when you fuck up a password. I wish that would happen with Gmail though.

There IS a code for Mickey Mousecapades though! I fucking beat that game too. I know people hate it, but I really like that game for some reason.

At the title screen, hold down Select then press a button on the D-Pad. Below is a diagram of what button takes you where.

Up: Castle Stage
Right: Ocean Stage
Down: Pirate Ship
Left: Woods Stage

Oh no, we knew about that code. That thing saved a ton of time. No game starring Mickey Mouse should be so ridiculously, goddamned difficult.

I remember the assinine 16 character strings of a Mega Man game that were required if you wanted to so much as CONTINUE your game.

That was a bitch for Megaman 5... one of a handful of games I could never "beat" on the NES.

The mega man and mega man x series were some awesome games. i have the PS2 collections of them. I still prefer playing the regular megamans on the NES Mega Man 2 was my favorite. I can still play through with no continues and make it through quick mans stage without stopping time.

Esbat, you should give them a try again.

Oh, I love the games, but... to have to write down that code just so you could take the trash out... it was madness!

Just had the one megaman. I had several of the levels all mapped out where I rarely had to stop moving or wait for something to pass by. I was getting it timed out almost as well as I did Robocop or Super C for the NES. Me and my little sister could beat Super C together in literally 20 minutes. Usually just to the pass the time until Fresh Prince of Bel Air or the Simpson would come on in the late afternoons during the Summer.
