Fraction: "I'm most excited about getting off of Earth. There are nine worlds in the Norse cosmology, sort of, and lately the book has been spending a lot of time here in Midgard sweet Midgard. I want to take these amazing people, these characters that are so known and loved (at least amongst the pages of THOR), and take 'em up and down the world tree. And beyond! Hell, why stop at just our world tree? I've said too much."

Sounds good to me! Very Happy

Fraction as writer was kinda revealed already in a recent interview with Tom Brevoort. While it's not a reboot, JRjr was also part of the rebooted second Thor series in 1998.

I say just give it a chance like you did Invincible Iron Man, and who knows you just might end up loving this like you did that. Wink

Plus, Frac's Thor: Ages of Thunder stuff was awesome. Check out the hardcover if you haven't already, it collects all 3 one-shots: Thor: Ages of Thunder, Thor: Reign of Blood, and Thor: Man of War.

I'll give it a shot. While I HATE Fraction on Uncanny, he's good on Iron Man (though I haven't read the last 5 or so issues yet), plus his Thor Secret Invasion mini was good.

As long as the Asgardians aren't making cute little jokes during battle that are completely out of character, it should be okay.

Other than the Warriors Three, I can't think of anyone else cracking many jokes during battle in the last couple years. And for those guys, its absolutely in character! Laughing

Fraction interview:
http://comicbookresources.com/?page=article&id=24055

Hmm, this excerpt from CBR made me raise an eyebrow...

"Siege" may seem like Thor and the Asgardians' darkest hour, but a new day dawns for the Thunder God and the survivors of "Siege" this spring in "Thor" #610, which kicks off new writer Matt Fraction and a top secret artist's run on the book.

So will JRJR be the ongoing artist on Thor or just for the Iron Man/Thor Free Comic Book Day teamup?? That LA Times article seemed to say he was the ongoing artist as well. scratch

i think fraction would be great to take over thor. you saw how he wrote thor in the secret invasion thor tie in. i think fraction is good at writting individuals like ironman and thor but not so much on teams like x-men

JRjr as the artist been official everywhere, so I don't know what the deal is. I even saw one commenter saying Romita talked about it to fans during the Con season.

Matt Fraction has proven he can handle Asgardian duties and I like that he's looking to explore the Norse cosmology, so I'm not worried. No gripe with Romita, though I would have preferred to see an artist who hasn't tackled Thor before.

Well according to IGN, its official that Romita Jr. is NOT the ongoing artist on Thor. He's only handling the FCBD issue. The full time artist is still top secret apparently.

[UPDATED: Marvel has notified IGN that the LA Times story was incorrect. John Romita Jr. is not the artist on Thor - only the FCBD issue. (The LA Times has altered its original story as well.) You can find our updated story below.]

Ages of Thunder was gold. Here's hoping his run is like that. I wonder if Thor will wear his Ages of Thunder outfit. Thor in black = win.

Hey you notice that Iron Man's armor looks different in that art...looks closer to the one from the movies. Maybe Tony will be building a new armor post-Siege! happy

Indeed. Good eye, I just noticed that. Here's hoping he does. One of things I've liked about Iron Man is that he doesn't get stuck with one outfit and makes variations to a certain design. The freedom of "costume" especially as situations arise, adds to the interest of the character. I hope the armour is not as "blocky" as it is in the Romita jr. picture. As for Thor, his black costume is win, but his current scostume is also win. Laughing

Yeah Iron Man is the ultimate futurist, he should constantly be trying to update himself. I think the armor looks "blocky" there just cuz of Romita Jr.'s style...reminds me of his Hulkbuster armor from WWH...

I was only kind of kidding with that. I'll definitely give it a chance. In truth it's only been Uncanny X-Men of his that I've truly hated (enough to drop the book). Everything else has been ok to really good (I really liked The Order). There are moments here and there where I hate his dialogue but it only seems to be something that consistenly occurs on Uncanny. I don't know what it is with him on that book.

^ Said it before and I'll say it again: the X-books editorial ruins everything. Create the best writer in the world and put him on an X-book - see how awful his stories become.

As for Iron Man's constant armor updates? New toys is the main reason, obviously. Good thing they can excuse it with "Stark is a futurist" crap in story.

I'm completely with you on the X-editorial comment. I think it's the best explanation for Fraction's writing on that book. His style there is so different from anything I've seen him do elsewhere.

As for Iron Man's armour, forget about the "Stark is a futurist" comments, I think it makes perfect sense for it to constantly evolve and change (regardless of toy sales). It just makes sense that a technology based character would be constantly changing his look and capabilities. Isn't that what happens with technology in real life? Most technology these days is undergoing a pretty dramatic change even in a 5 year time period.

Oh snap! This is great news for me. I looooved Fraction's Thor one-shots. I'm glad Romita's not the regular artist, I've never liked his style at all. I think he has too much of a blocky feel to people the way he draws them.

I don't know, I loved Brubaker's run on Uncanny X-men and outside of Messiah War X-force has been perfect.

Brubaker's run was mostly a mess and X-Force was pretty good until that crossover. Now I just can't stand that book.

I liked the first half of the Shi'ar arc. 'Messiah War' and 'X-Necrosha' just killed X-Force for me.

I thought that Rise and Fall of the Shi'ar Empire was okay. I was expecting to like it more than I did. Though Brubaker did make me a fan of Warpath and Hepzibah (and I think that she had been sorely underused as of late). Divided We Stand was okay. The art is what was awesome.

As for X-Force, I'm back and forth with it. I like the arcs that Mike Choi draws. I'm just not a Crain fan at all. I think that Messiah War was complete crap. And I'm not really loving Necroshia. For one, as I said I hate Crain's art and the other problem is Blackest Night. While the stories are not the same they have similar elements and I think Blackest Night is a billion times better.

I did love Messiah CompleX. That was great.

My favorite runs on an X book within the past 10 years are definitely Whednon' Astonishing X-Men run and Kyle and Yost's New X-Men run.
